Airsoft Gun Magazines
Airsoft guns shoot airsoft BBs. These BBs are normally housed in the gun’s mag. These magazines typically connect to the airsoft weapon very similarly to the genuine weapons they are created after. The kinds of airsoft weapon magazines consist of real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity mags.
Airsoft Weapon Mag Types
Airsoft gun mags come in several types like real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity mags. Real capacity magazines, or real-caps, simulate the quantity of airsoft BBs a real weapon would store, which is generally about 24 to 30 BBs. Mid capability magazines, or mid-caps, permit for more airsoft BB storage with capacities about 120 to 160 BBs.
How Airsoft Magazines Work
Airsoft magazines have a series of internal channels and BB storage areas. The BBs are normally packed into these channels with a spring connected to the extremely far end. When the BBs are filled, they compress the spring producing stress. On the load end, a small latch holds the BBs in the mag. When a BB is fired, the airsoft gun releases the latch for a split second and loads another BB into the gun out of the mag. CO2, GBB, and HPA guns, which use high pressure air or green gas, will typically store the gas or feed air in through the mag. This feeds BBs into the guns for these kinds of systems.
Airsoft Rifle Magazines
Airsoft rifle magazines are usually used in automatic electric guns (AEGs) and some types of sniper rifles. The mags are specific to the type of AEG rifle plus most of the kinds of that rifle are cross-compatible with the mags. Learn more about how airsoft guns function. The AEG magazines are inserted into the weapon’s magazine well. For example M4 design AEG mags would usually operate in all M4 design rifles from a brief CBQ weapon with a 10 inch barrel made by KWA to a designated marksman rifle (DMR) platform with a 24″ made by Lancer Tactical or Elite Force. The same would relate to AK47 AEG mags with swapability in between different AK rifle platforms. AEG rifle magazines can store between 60 to 200+ airsoft BBs.
Airsoft SMG Mags Information
Airsoft SMG mags AEG are similarly separated by weapon model and usable between different submachine guns. Hecker and Koch H&K MP5 AEG mags are made to operate in different MP5s like the MP5K or MP5SD. P90, KRISS Vector, and TMP AEG mags are developed to be cross-compatible. These SMG mags also can be found in real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity versions with BB storage capacities varying from around 24 airsoft BBs with real capacity mags to over 200 BBs with high capacity magazines. Rifle Magazines for Green Gas and HPA Systems Green gas rifles (including GBB versions) and guns powered by high pressure air (HPA) often have their own custom style depending upon the airsoft weapon brand. These magazines use air and gas to work so the magazines frequently come with builtin gas storage areas or are pre-tapped for HPA tank hookups. The magazines used in GBB guns accumulate gas in the magazine so the rifle cycles every shot and feeds in the next BB. HPA pre-tapped mags use HPA lines which are attached to the valves and allow the pressurized air to stream in through the magazine. This setup feeds the airsoft BBs into the HPA weapon.
Airsoft Handgun Magazines
When compared to the AEG mags used in smgs and rifles, Airsoft handgun magazines are frequently less versatile. Pistols mags vary by type and frequently use CO2 or green gas (propane) stored in the mag. The magazine is inserted into the handgun’s grip like the basic firearm style. Pistol magazines are often interchangeable between similar models of the very same airsoft gun producer, however are often not cross-brand compatible unless they are specifically developed for that function. Learning about the different types of airsoft pistols gives you a better understanding of how their mags function. A lot of airsoft pistol mags save around 20 to 30 airsoft BBs.
