Airsoft Gun Magazines
Airsoft weapons shoot airsoft BBs. These BBs are usually stored in the weapon’s mag. These mags generally connect to the airsoft gun similar to the real weapons they are created after. The types of airsoft gun mags consist of real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity mags.
Airsoft Gun Magazine Type Details
Airsoft gun magazines come in a few types like real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity magazines. Real capacity magazines, or real-caps, mimic the quantity of airsoft BBs a real weapon would hold, which is normally about 24 to 30 BBs. Mid capability mags, or mid-caps, allow for more airsoft BB storage with capacities about 120 to 160 BBs.
Information on How Airsoft Magazines Work
Airsoft mags have a series of internal channels and BB storage zones. The BBs are generally filled into these channels with a spring attached to the really far end. When the BBs are packed, they compress the spring producing tension. On the load end, a small lock holds the BBs in the mag. When a BB is fired, the airsoft gun launches the latch for a fraction of a second and loads another BB into the gun out of the magazine. GBB, HPA, and CO2 weapons, which use high pressure air or green gas, will often save the gas or feed air in through the magazine. This feeds BBs into the guns for these kinds of systems.
Info Airsoft Rifle Mags
Airsoft rifle magazines are most often used in automatic electric guns (AEGs) and some types of sniper rifles. The magazines are specific to the type of AEG rifle plus all of the types of that rifle are cross-compatible with the mags. Understand how the inner workings of airsoft guns shoot BBs. The AEG mags are inserted into the gun’s mag well. M4 design AEG mags would typically work in all M4 design rifles from a short CBQ weapon with a 10″ barrel made by KWA to a designated marksman rifle (DMR) platform with a 24″ like the guns made by ICS or Tokyo Marui. The same would apply to AK47 AEG magazines with swapability between various AK rifle platforms. AEG rifle mags can hold between 60 to 200+ airsoft BBs.
Airsoft SMG Mags Details
Airsoft SMG mags AEG are similarly separated by gun model and usable between various submachine guns. Hecker and Koch H&K MP5 AEG mags are made to operate in different MP5s like the MP5K or MP5SD. P90, KRISS Vector, and TMP AEG magazines are constructed to be cross-compatible. These SMG mags also are available in real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity versions with BB storage capacities ranging from around 24 airsoft BBs with real capacity mags to over 200 BBs with high capacity mags. Rifle Magazines for Green Gas and HPA Systems These magazines use air and gas to work so the mags typically come with builtin gas tanks or pre-tapped for HPA tank hookups. The magazines used in GBB weapons keep gas in the magazine so the rifle cycles every shot and feeds in the next BB.
Airsoft Pistol Mags
Airsoft handgun magazines are typically less versatile when compared to the AEG mags used in rifles and SMGs. Many airsoft pistol mags hold around 20 to 30 airsoft BBs.
