Airsoft Gun Magazines
These mags generally connect to the airsoft weapon very similarly to the real weapons they are modeled after. The types of airsoft gun magazines include real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity mags.
Airsoft Gun Mag Types
Airsoft weapon mags are manufactured in a number of types like real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity mags. These styles frequently involve AEG magazines. Real capacity mags, or real-caps, simulate the supply of airsoft BBs a real gun would store, which is generally around 24 to 30 BBs. Mid capability magazines, or mid-caps, allow for more airsoft BB space with capacities around 120 to 160 BBs. High capacity mags, or high-caps, offer airsoft gamers the most storage space with around 200 rounds of BB storage capacity. Something to take note of about high-cap mags is that airsoft fields frequently prohibit their usage because they allow players firing too much ammunition to spray and pray throughout gameplay.
How Airsoft Magazines Work
Airsoft magazines have a series of internal channels and BB storage areas. When a BB is fired, the airsoft weapon releases the latch for a fraction of a second and loads another BB into the gun out of the mag. GBB, CO2, and HPA weapons, which use high pressure air or green gas, will often keep the gas or feed air in through the mag.
Info Airsoft Rifle Mags
Airsoft rifle magazines are most often used in automatic electric guns (AEGs) and some types of sniper rifles. Find out how airsoft guns like spring, AEG, and green gas rifles shoot BBs. The mags are particular to the type of AEG rifle and all of the types of that rifle are cross-compatible with the magazines. The AEG magazines are inserted into the gun’s mag well.
Did You Know?
Some airsoft AEG guns and machine guns use very large capacity magazines. They can hold up to 1000s of airsoft BBs and provide fire support for a squad or fireteam.
Info on Airsoft SMG Magazines
Airsoft SMG magazines AEG are also separated by weapon design and usable between various submachine guns. Hecker and Koch H&K MP5 AEG mags are made to work in various MP5s like the MP5K or MP5SD. P90, KRISS Vector, and TMP AEG magazines are constructed similarly. These SMG magazines also come in real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity versions with BB storage capacities varying from around 24 airsoft BBs with real capacity mags to over 200 BBs with high capacity magazines. Rifle Magazines for Green Gas and HPA Systems Green gas rifles (consisting of GBB versions) and weapons powered by high pressure air (HPA) often have their own custom design depending upon the airsoft weapon brand. These magazines use air and gas to function so the magazines typically include builtin gas storage or are pre-tapped for HPA tank connections. The mags used in GBB weapons house gas in the mag so the rifle cycles every shot and feeds in the next BB. HPA pre-tapped mags use HPA lines which are connected to the valves and help the pressurized air to flow in through the mag. This setup feeds the airsoft BBs into the HPA gun.
Airsoft Pistol Mags Details
When compared to the AEG magazines used in smgs and rifles, Airsoft handgun mags are often less flexible. Pistols mags vary by type and frequently use CO2 or green gas (propane) housed in the mag. The mag is placed into the pistol’s grip like the basic firearm design. Handgun magazines are typically interchangeable in between similar models of the exact same airsoft gun manufacturer, however are frequently not cross-brand compatible unless they are particularly designed for that function. Understanding the different styles and types of airsoft sidearms can give you more insight to how their pistol mags work. Many airsoft pistol mags store around 20 to 30 airsoft BBs.
