Details About Airsoft Gun Mags
These mags typically attach to the airsoft weapon similar to the real weapons they are designed after. The types of airsoft weapon magazines consist of real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity mags.
Airsoft Gun Mag Type Details
Airsoft gun magazines come in multiple types like real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity mags. Real capacity magazines, or real-caps, mimic the amount of airsoft BBs a genuine weapon would store, which is usually about 24 to 30 BBs. Mid capability magazines, or mid-caps, allow for more airsoft BB storage with capacities about 120 to 160 BBs.
How Airsoft Magazines Work
Airsoft magazines have a series of internal channels and BB storage locations. The BBs are usually filled into these channels with a spring connected to the extremely far end. When the BBs are packed, they compress the spring developing stress. On the load end, a small lock holds the BBs in the magazine. When a BB is fired, the airsoft gun launches the latch for a fraction of a second and loads another BB into the gun out of the mag. GBB, CO2, and HPA guns, which use compressed air or green gas, will often save the gas or feed air in through the mag. This feeds BBs into the guns for these types of systems.
Airsoft Rifle Mags
Airsoft rifle magazines are most often used in automatic electric guns (AEGs) and some types of sniper rifles. The mags are specific to the kind of AEG rifle plus all of the types of that rifle are cross-compatible with the mags. See how the inner workings of airsoft guns shoot BBs. The AEG magazines are placed into the weapon’s magazine well. M4 style AEG magazines would generally work in all M4 style rifles from a brief CBQ gun with a 10″ barrel made by KWA to a designated marksman rifle (DMR) platform with a 24″ barrel. The exact same cross-compatibility would apply to AK47 AEG magazines with swapability in between various AK rifle platforms. AEG rifle mags can keep in between 60 to 200+ airsoft BBs.
Airsoft SMG Mags Details
Airsoft SMG magazines AEG are also separated by weapon model and functional in between different submachine guns (SMGs). These SMG mags usually come in real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity variations with BB storage capacities ranging from around 24 airsoft BBs with real capacity mags to over 200 BBs with high capacity magazines. Rifle Magazines for Green Gas and HPA Systems Green gas rifles (including GBB variations) and guns powered by high pressure air (HPA) frequently have their own custom design depending upon the airsoft gun brand. These mags use air and gas to function so the magazines frequently come with builtin gas storage or are pre-tapped for HPA tank connections. The magazines used in GBB guns house gas in the mag so the rifle cycles every shot and feeds in the next BB. HPA pre-tapped magazines use HPA lines which are linked to the valves and allow the pressurized air to flow in through the mag. This setup feeds the airsoft BBs into the HPA gun.
Airsoft Handgun Mags Information
Airsoft handgun magazines are frequently less flexible when compared to the AEG mags used in rifles and SMGs. Many airsoft pistol magazines hold around 20 to 30 airsoft BBs.
