About Airsoft Gun Magazines
Airsoft guns shoot airsoft BBs. These BBs are generally housed in the weapon’s mag. These mags generally attach to the airsoft gun very similarly to the real weapons they are imitated. The types of airsoft gun magazines consist of real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity magazines.
Details About Airsoft Gun Magazine Types
Airsoft gun mags come in a few types like real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity magazines. Real capacity mags, or real-caps, replicate the quantity of airsoft BBs a real weapon would hold, which is usually about 24 to 30 BBs. Mid capability mags, or mid-caps, enable for more airsoft BB storage with capacities about 120 to 160 BBs.
Airsoft Mag Functionality Details
Airsoft magazines have a series of internal channels and BB storage spaces. The BBs are typically pushed into these channels with a spring connected to the extremely far end. When the BBs are packed, they compress the spring developing stress. On the load end, a small latch holds the BBs in the mag. When a BB is fired, the airsoft weapon launches the lock for a split second and loads another BB into the weapon out of the magazine. HPA, GBB, and CO2 weapons, which use compressed air or green gas, will frequently keep the gas or feed air in through the magazine. This feeds BBs into the guns for these types of systems.
Airsoft Rifle Mags
Airsoft rifle mags are most often used in automatic electric guns (AEGs) and some types of sniper rifles. The magazines are specific to the type of AEG rifle plus most of the types of that rifle are cross-compatible with the magazines. Learn more about how airsoft guns function. The AEG mags are placed into the gun’s magazine insertion area. M4 design AEG mags would generally work in all M4 style rifles from a brief CBQ weapon with a 10 inch barrel made by KWA to a designated marksman rifle (DMR) platform with a 24″ like the guns made by ICS or Tokyo Marui. The same idea would apply to AK47 AEG mags with swapability between various AK rifle platforms. AEG rifle magazines can hold in between 60 to 200+ airsoft BBs.
Details About Airsoft SMG Magazines
Airsoft SMG mags AEG are also separated by gun model and functional in between different submachine guns. Hecker and Koch H&K MP5 AEG mags are made to operate in various MP5s like the MP5K or MP5SD. P90, KRISS Vector, and TMP AEG mags are usually built to be compatible. These SMG magazines also can be found in real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity versions with BB storage capacities varying from around 24 airsoft BBs with real capacity mags to over 200 BBs with high capacity mags. Rifle Mags for Green Gas and HPA Systems These mags use air and gas to operate so the mags frequently come with builtin gas reservoirs or pre-tapped for HPA tank connections. The magazines used in GBB weapons save gas in the magazine so the rifle cycles every shot and feeds in the next BB.
Info on Airsoft Pistol Mags
Airsoft handgun magazines are often less flexible when compared to the AEG mags used in rifles and SMGs. Many airsoft handgun mags can store around 20 to 30 airsoft BBs.
