Airsoft Weapon Magazines
These magazines generally connect to the airsoft gun very similarly to the genuine weapons they are designed after. The types of airsoft weapon mags consist of real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity magazines.
Airsoft Gun Mag Types
Airsoft gun magazines come in multiple types like real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity magazines. Real capacity mags, or real-caps, imitate the quantity of airsoft BBs a real weapon would store, which is generally about 24 to 30 BBs. Mid capability magazines, or mid-caps, allow for additional airsoft BB storage with capacities around 120 to 160 BBs.
How Airsoft Mags Work
Airsoft mags have a series of internal channels and BB storage locations. When a BB is fired, the airsoft gun launches the latch for a fraction of a second and loads another BB into the gun out of the mag. GBB, HPA, and CO2 weapons, which use high pressure air or green gas, will often hold the gas or feed air in through the mag.
Airsoft Rifle Magazines
Airsoft rifle mags are most typically used in automatic electric guns (AEGs) and some types of sniper rifles. Learn about how airsoft guns work. The mags are specific to the type of AEG rifle and all of the types of that rifle are cross-compatible with the mags. The AEG magazines are placed into the gun’s mag well.
High Capacity LMG Mag Information
Some airsoft AEGs and squad automatic weapons like SAWs use very large capacity magazines. They can hold up to 1000s of BBs and provide massive amounts of suppressive fire for a unit or fireteam.
Airsoft SMG Magazines
Airsoft SMG mags AEG are similarly separated by gun model and functional between various submachine guns. These SMG magazines also come in real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity variations with BB storage capacities varying from around 24 airsoft BBs with real capacity mags to over 200 BBs with high capacity mags. Rifle Magazines for Green Gas and HPA Systems Green gas rifles (including GBB versions) and guns powered by high pressure air (HPA) often have their own custom style depending upon the airsoft weapon brand. These magazines use air and gas to operate so the mags often include builtin gas storage or pre-tapped for HPA tank hookups. The magazines used in GBB weapons store gas in the mag so the rifle cycles every shot and feeds in the next BB. HPA pre-tapped magazines use HPA lines which are linked to the valves and enable the pressurized air to stream in through the magazine. This setup feeds the airsoft BBs into the HPA weapon.
About Airsoft Pistol Mags
When compared to the AEG magazines used in rifles and SMGs, Airsoft pistol magazines are often less versatile. Pistols mags vary by type and typically use CO2 or green gas (propane) stored in the mag. The magazine is inserted into the handgun’s grip like the standard firearm style. Handgun mags are often interchangeable in between comparable designs of the exact same airsoft gun maker, but are typically not cross-brand suitable unless they are specifically created for that function. Understanding the specific styles of airsoft sidearms gives you a better understanding of how their magazines function. The majority of airsoft pistol magazines keep around 20 to 30 airsoft BBs.
