About Airsoft Weapon Magazines
Airsoft guns shoot airsoft BBs. These BBs are generally held in the weapon’s mag. These mags typically connect to the airsoft gun similar to the genuine weapons they are imitated. The types of airsoft gun magazines include real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity mags.
Details About Airsoft Weapon Mag Types
Airsoft gun mags are made in several kinds like real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity mags. These styles usually apply to AEG magazines. Real capacity magazines, or real-caps, replicate the total of airsoft BBs a real weapon would hold in ammunition, which is typically about 24 to 30 airsoft BBs. Mid capability mags, or mid-caps, permit more airsoft BB space with capacities around 120 to 160 BBs. High capacity mags, or high-caps, provide airsoft gamers the greatest storage with around 200 rounds of BB storage volume. Something to keep in mind about high-cap mags is that airsoft arenas typically restrain their usage due to players shooting way too much ammo to spray and pray during games.
How Airsoft Magazines Work
Airsoft mags have a series of internal channels and BB storage locations. The BBs are typically loaded into these channels with a spring connected to the extremely far end. When the BBs are packed, they compress the spring developing stress. On the load end, a little lock holds the BBs in the mag. When a BB is fired, the airsoft weapon launches the latch for a fraction of a second and loads another BB into the gun out of the mag. HPA, CO2, and GBB weapons, which use compressed air or green gas, will typically store the gas or feed air in through the magazine. This feeds BBs into the guns for these kinds of systems.
Details About Airsoft Rifle Mags
Airsoft rifle magazines are most typically used in automatic electric guns (AEGs) and some types of sniper rifles. Learn about how airsoft AEGs work. The mags are specific to the type of AEG rifle and all of the types of that rifle are cross-compatible with the mags. The AEG magazines are placed into the weapon’s magazine well.
Did You Know?
Some airsoft AEGs and squad automatic weapons like M249 Bravo SAWs and M60s use very large capacity magazines. They can carry up to thousands of airsoft BBs and provide massive amounts of suppressive fire for a squad or fireteam during fights.
Airsoft SMG Magazines
Airsoft SMG mags AEG are similarly separated by gun design and functional between various submachine guns. Hecker and Koch H&K MP5 AEG magazines are made to operate in various MP5s like the MP5K or MP5SD. P90, KRISS Vector, and TMP AEG mags are built in a similar way. These SMG magazines also can be found in real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity versions with BB storage capacities varying from around 24 airsoft BBs with real capacity mags to over 200 BBs with high capacity magazines. Rifle Magazines for Green Gas and HPA Systems Green gas rifles (including GBB versions) and guns powered by high pressure air (HPA) typically have their own custom design depending upon the airsoft weapon brand. These mags use air and gas to operate so the mags typically feature builtin gas reservoirs or pre-tapped for HPA tank hookups. The mags used in GBB guns keep gas in the magazine so the rifle cycles every shot and feeds in the next BB. HPA pre-tapped mags use HPA lines which are linked to the valves and help the pressurized air to stream in through the mag. This setup feeds the airsoft BBs into the HPA weapon.
Airsoft Pistol Mags
Airsoft handgun mags are typically less versatile when compared to the AEG magazines used in smgs and rifles. Many airsoft handgun mags store around 20 to 30 airsoft BBs.
