Airsoft Gun Magazines

Airsoft guns shoot airsoft BBs. These BBs are generally held in the gun’s mag. These magazines generally connect to the airsoft weapon very similarly to the real weapons they are imitated. The types of airsoft weapon magazines consist of real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity magazines.

Info on Airsoft Gun Mag Types

Airsoft weapon magazines come in a handful of types like real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity magazines. These kinds usually relate to AEG mags for automatic electric guns. Real capacity mags, or real-caps, imitate the amount of airsoft BBs a real weapon would hold in ammunition, which is typically about 24 to 30 BBs. Mid capability mags, or mid-caps, enable more airsoft BB space with capacities around 120 to 160 BBs. High capacity magazines, or high-caps, provide airsoft players the most storage space with around 200 rounds of BB storage volume. One thing to take note of about high-cap mags is that airsoft fields usually restrain their usage because of players firing too much ammunition to spray-and-pray during gameplay.

How Airsoft Magazines Work

Airsoft magazines have a series of internal channels and BB storage zones. The BBs are normally filled into these channels with a spring connected to the really far end. When the BBs are packed, they compress the spring developing tension. On the load end, a small latch holds the BBs in the magazine. When a BB is fired, the airsoft gun releases the latch for a fraction of a second and loads another BB into the weapon out of the magazine. CO2, GBB, and HPA guns, which use compressed air or green gas, will often store the gas or feed air in through the mag. This feeds BBs into the guns for these kinds of systems.

Info Airsoft Rifle Mags

Airsoft rifle mags are most often used in automatic electric guns (AEGs) and some types of sniper rifles. Find out how airsoft AEGs work. The magazines are specific to the type of AEG rifle and all of the types of that rifle are cross-compatible with the magazines. The AEG magazines are inserted into the gun’s mag well.

About High Capacity LMG Magazines

Some airsoft AEGs and machine guns use very large capacity magazines. They can hold up to 1000s of airsoft BBs and provide massive amounts of suppressive fire for a squad or fireteam during engagements.

Info on Airsoft SMG Mags

Airsoft SMG mags AEG are similarly separated by gun model and functional between various submachine guns (SMGs). These SMG magazines also come in real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity versions with BB storage capacities ranging from around 24 airsoft BBs with real capacity mags to over 200 BBs with high capacity mags. Rifle Magazines for Green Gas and HPA Systems Green gas rifles (including GBB versions) and guns powered by high pressure air (HPA) typically have their own custom design depending upon the airsoft weapon brand. These mags use air and gas to function so the magazines typically come with builtin gas tanks or are pre-tapped for HPA tank hookups. The magazines used in GBB weapons store gas in the magazine so the rifle cycles every shot and feeds in the next BB. HPA pre-tapped magazines use HPA lines which are connected to the valves and allow the pressurized air to flow in through the magazine. This setup feeds the airsoft BBs into the HPA gun.

Airsoft Pistol Magazines Info

When compared to the AEG magazines used in smgs and rifles, Airsoft pistol mags are typically less flexible. Pistols mags differ by type and typically use CO2 or green gas (propane) held in the magazine. The mag is inserted into the handgun’s grip like the standard gun design. Handgun magazines are typically interchangeable between comparable models of the very same airsoft gun manufacturer, but are often not cross-brand suitable unless they are specifically developed for that purpose. Understanding the specific styles and types of airsoft handguns gives you more insight to how their mags differ. Most airsoft handgun mags keep around 20 to 30 airsoft BBs.
