Each TORIC riflescope comes with a High Profile Turret Kit. The kit allows you to replace the exisiting standard medium turret, with the high profile turret providing the long range shooter with the following benefits:
“Locking Turret Feature – To provide the shooter with the confidence that the elevation turret cannot be moved even in the roughest of conditions
Simply lift the high profile elevation turret up to disengage the lock. Turn the elevation knob in the desired direction. Push turret back down to return to the locked position.
“Zero Stop provides the shooter with the assurance that he will not go past his zero.
After sighting in your rifle, simply insert the Turret Kit and set the zero stop module in place.
Once assembled, you now have a positive repeatable stopping point at your chosen zero point. Then, no matter how many elevation adjustments you make, turning the elevation knob down to the zero stop setting returns you to your original zero.
No counting clicks or need for visual reference. In poor or low-lighting conditions, you can return to your original zero stop simply by feel.
“The windage and elevation turrets can be turned without tools and have .25-MOA click-adjustments, 20 MOA of adjustment per revolution and a 50-MOA range. ”
Other Quality 3-15×42 TORIC Features
TORIC Locking Side Focus:
“Corrects for parallax and will help in your desire to be a more accurate long range shooter.
Locking Side Focus adjustment dials out parallax from 15 yards to Infinity. By getting rid of parallax, you’re assured that your point of impact is going to be exactly where you intend it to be because your foculsed on the same optical plane as the reticle
Main benefits of the TORIC Locking Side Focus:
Easy to reach, and use while in the shooting position
Don’t have to lift your head off the stock to use
The side focus reference markings are highly visible and easy to read
The side focus feature helps shooters who are not consistent in their cheek weld method or if the eye is in a less than ideal alignment with the scope
The shallow depth of focus can aid in determing mirage and reading wind direction
Large Ocular Lens with 4” of Constant Eye Relief
“Benefits:
“Keeps your cheek weld consistant throughout the entire magnification range for improved accuracy
4” of eye relief keeps you safe from getting hit under heavy magnum recoil or shooting at sharp angels.
“Easier for the shooter to locate the target
When you need a reticle with accurate Bullet Drop Compensation and windage correction, the Glass-etched Impact BDC reticle is it. The strategically placed MoA BDC dots and pointed post bracketing system provide bullet drop compensation with a definitive aiming point that does not obscure the target, even at long range.
The horizontal pointed posts allow you to bracket the target, making it easier to hold slightly higher or lower on the target.
The vertical hash marks on the center crosshair and windage correction dots provide an approximate hold for a 10 mile-per-hour crosswind.
The reticle is set up for both standard (2,800 fps) and magnum cartridge (3,000 fps) trajectory in approximate 100 yard increments.
Simply sight a standard cartridge to 100 yards and a magnum at 200 yards.
Or, to customize the reticle to your exact load, calculate the exact distance each dot represents by entering your cartridge info into the IMPACT Ballistic Program.

What You Need to Know About Glass

Rifle scopes allow you to precisely align a rifle at various targets by aligning your eye with the target over a range. They accomplish this through zoom using a set of lenses inside the scope. The scope’s alignment can be adjusted to account for numerous ecological factors like wind and elevation to make up for bullet drop.

The scope’s function is to understand exactly where the bullet will hit based on the sight picture you are viewing using the scope as you line up the scope’s crosshair or reticle with the intended point of impact. Many modern-day rifle optics have around 11 parts which are located within and outside of the optic. These optic pieces consist of the rifle scope’s body, lenses, windage dials or turrets, focus rings, and other elements. Learn about the eleven parts of glass.

Rifle Scope Styles

Rifle scopes can be either “first focal plane” or “second focal plane” type of scopes. Deciding upon the optimal type of rifle optic depends on what type of shooting you plan on doing.

Info About First Focal Plane Scopes

Focal plane scopes (FFP) feature the reticle in front of the zoom lens. These kinds of scopes are useful for:

  • Quick acquisition, far away kinds of shooting
  • Shooting circumstances where calculations are minimal
  • Experienced shooters who recognize their aim point “hold over” as well as “lead” relationships for their long gun
  • Shooters who don’t mind the reticle is enlarged and takes up more visual sight space than a SFP reticle

Second Focal Plane Glass Info

Second focal plane optics (SFP) include the reticle behind the zoom lens. In the FFP example with the SFP scope, the 5x “zoom” one hundred yard tick reticle measurement would be 1/5th of the non “zoom” tick measurement.

  • Long distance kinds of shooting where shooters have increased time to make ballistic computations
  • Shooting where most of the shots take place within much shorter spaces and ranges
  • Shooters who would like a clearer optic picture with less space taken up by the bigger FFP reticle

Rifle Glass Zoom

The amount of scope zoom you require is based on the type of shooting you choose to do. Nearly every kind of rifle scope delivers some level of zoom. The quantity of zoom a scope provides is established by the diameter, thickness, and curves of the lens glass within the rifle scope. The zoom of the scope is the “power” of the opic. This indicates what the shooter is looking at through the scope is amplified times the power element of what can typically be seen by human eyes.

Fixed Single Power Lens Rifle Scope Facts

A single power rifle scope uses a zoom number designator like 4×32. This means the zoom power of the scope is 4x power and the objective lens is 32mm. The zoom of this kind of scope can not fluctuate considering that it is a set power scope.

Variable Power Lens Optics

Variable power rifle scopes use enhanced power. The power modification is achieved by using the power ring part of the scope near the back of the scope by the eye bell.

The Power and Range Correlation of Scopes

Here are some recommended scope power levels and the ranges where they can be effectively used. Always remember that high magnification optics and scopes will not be as practical as lower powered glass since excessive magnification can be a detractor. The same idea relates to longer distances where the shooter needs to have increased power to see exactly where to best aim the rifle.

Details on Rifle Optic Lens Finishing

All state-of-the-art rifle optic lenses are covered. Lens finish is a significant element of a rifle when considering high end rifle optics and scope setups.

Info on Rifle Scope Lens Coatings – HD Versus ED

Some rifle scope producers will also use “HD” or high-definition lens finishings which apply different procedures, rare earth compounds, polarizations, and components to extract different colors and viewable definition through the lens. This HD finishing is normally used with greater density glass which lowers light’s opportunity to refract through the lens glass. Some scope brands use “HD” to refer to “ED” signifying extra-low dispersion glass. ED deals with how colors are represented on the chroma spectrum and the chromatic deviance or aberration which is similarly called color distortion or fringing. Chromatic aberration may be visible around objects with well defined outlines as light hits the item from specific angles.

Single Finish Versus Multi-Coating for Rifle Scopes

Various scope lenses can even have different finishes applied to them. All lenses typically have at least some type of treatment or finishing applied to them prior to being used in a rifle scope or optic assembly. This is since the lens isn’t simply a raw piece of glass. It becomes part of the carefully tuned optic. It needs to have a finish put on it so that the lens will be efficiently functional in lots of types of environments, degrees of sunlight (full VS shade), and other shooting conditions.

This lens treatment can protect the lens from scratches while reducing glare and other less helpful things experienced in the shooting environment while sighting in with the scope. The quality of a single covered lens depends on the scope producer and how much you paid for it.

Some scope manufacturers also make it a point to specify if their optic lenses are layered or “multi” coated. Being “much better” depends on the maker’s lens treatment technology and the quality of materials used in developing the rifle scope.

Anti-water Lens Coating

Water on a lens doesn’t help with keeping a clear sight picture through a scope at all. Many top of the line and military grade optic makers will coat their lenses with a hydrophobic or hydrophilic coating.

Choices for Installing Optics on Firearms

Installing solutions for scopes are available in a couple of choices. There are the standard scope rings which are separately installed to the scope and one-piece scope mounts which cradle the scope. These different types of mounts also generally are made in quick release versions which use manual levers which permit rifle operators to quickly install and remove the glass.

Hex Key Rifle Scope Rings

Standard, clamp style mounting scope rings use hex head screws to mount to the flattop design Picatinny scope mount rails on rifles. These types of scope mounts use two different rings to support the optic, and are made from 7075 T6 billet aluminum which are created for long range precision shooting. This type of scope mount is perfect for rifles which require a resilient, rock solid mounting solution which will not move no matter how much the scope is moved or abused.

Quick-Release Cantilever Rifle Optic Ring Mounting Solutions

These types of quick-release rifle scope mounts can be used to quickly attach and take off a scope from a rifle before reattaching it to a different rifle. Numerous scopes can even be switched out if they all use a similar style mount. These types of mounts come in handy for rifle platforms which are transported a lot, to swap out the optic from the rifle for protection, or for optics which are used between numerous rifles.

Details on Optic Tube Sealing and Gas Purging

Moisture inside your rifle glass can spoil a day on the range and your costly optic by resulting in fogging and generating residue within the scope tube. A lot of scopes prevent humidity from getting in the optical tube with a series of sealing O-rings which are waterproof. Generally, these scopes can be submerged beneath 20 or 30 feet of water before the water pressure can force moisture past the O-rings. This should be more than enough moisture content avoidance for common use rifles, unless you intend on taking your rifle sailing and are worried about the optic still functioning if it is submerged in water and you can still recover the rifle.

Info on Glass Tube Gas Purging

Another component of preventing the accumulation of wetness inside of the rifle scope’s tube is filling the tube with a gas like nitrogen. Since this space is currently taken up by the gas, the optic is less altered by temperature changes and pressure distinctions from the outside environment which may potentially permit water vapor to leak in around the seals to fill the vacuum which would otherwise be there. These are good qualities of a good rifle scope to seek out.
