Airsoft Gun Magazines
These mags generally connect to the airsoft gun very similarly to the real weapons they are modeled after. The types of airsoft gun magazines consist of real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity mags.
Information on Airsoft Gun Magazine Types
Airsoft weapon magazines come in multiple types like real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity magazines. Real capacity magazines, or real-caps, imitate the quantity of airsoft BBs a genuine weapon would hold, which is usually about 24 to 30 BBs. Mid capability magazines, or mid-caps, enable for more airsoft BB storage with capacities around 120 to 160 BBs.
How Airsoft Magazines Work
Airsoft mags have a series of internal channels and BB storage spots. The BBs are usually loaded into these channels with a spring attached to the very far end. When the BBs are filled, they compress the spring creating tension. On the load end, a small latch holds the BBs in the mag. When a BB is fired, the airsoft weapon releases the latch for a split second and loads another BB into the gun out of the mag. HPA, GBB, and CO2 weapons, which use compressed air or green gas, will often keep the gas or feed air in through the magazine. This feeds BBs into the guns for these kinds of systems.
Information Airsoft Rifle Magazines
Airsoft rifle mags are most frequently used in automatic electric guns (AEGs) and some types of sniper rifles. Learn about how airsoft guns like spring, AEG, and green gas rifles shoot BBs. The mags are particular to the type of AEG rifle and all of the types of that rifle are cross-compatible with the mags. The AEG mags are inserted into the gun’s mag well.
Did You Know?
Some airsoft AEG guns and squad automatic weapons like SAWs use high capacity box magazines. They can store up to 1000s of BBs and provide massive amounts of suppressive fire for a unit or fireteam during fights.
Airsoft SMG Mags
Airsoft SMG mags AEG are usually separated by weapon design and usable in between various submachine guns. Hecker and Koch H&K MP5 AEG magazines are made to work in various MP5s like the MP5K or MP5SD. P90, KRISS Vector, and TMP AEG mags are developed in a similar way. These SMG mags also come in real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity variations with BB storage capacities ranging from around 24 airsoft BBs with real capacity mags to over 200 BBs with high capacity mags. Rifle Mags for Green Gas and HPA Systems Green gas rifles (including GBB versions) and weapons powered by high pressure air (HPA) frequently have their own custom-made design depending on the airsoft weapon brand. These mags use air and gas to work so the mags frequently feature builtin gas tanks or pre-tapped for HPA tank connections. The magazines used in GBB weapons save gas in the mag so the rifle cycles every shot and feeds in the next BB. HPA pre-tapped magazines use HPA lines which are connected to the valves and permit the pressurized air to stream in through the mag. This setup feeds the airsoft BBs into the HPA weapon.
Airsoft Pistol Magazines Information
Airsoft pistol mags are often less flexible when compared to the AEG magazines used in smgs and rifles. Handguns mags vary by type and often use CO2 or green gas (propane) kept in the magazine. The mag is placed into the pistol’s grip like the standard firearm design. Pistol mags are typically interchangeable in between similar models of the same airsoft weapon manufacturer, however are frequently not cross-brand suitable unless they are particularly designed for that purpose. Learning about the different styles of airsoft handguns gives you a better understanding of how their magazines work. Many airsoft handgun magazines keep around 20 to 30 airsoft BBs.
