“Picture-in-Picture” mode
Picture-in-Picture” mode allows the user to add an extra frame to the display. Sized only 1/10 of the total display’s, the frame shows enlarged image of the target and reticle. This allows the user to see both: enlarged image of the aiming area and the full field of view.
Stream Vision App.
Using the free, high-tech, iOS and Android compatible Stream Vision app, the Digisight Ultra connects via Wi-Fi to allow transfer of images and video to smartphones and other wireless devices in real time, stream footage to YouTube and other online video platforms (depending on model), and even use your personal device as a wireless remote control.
Powerful long-range IR Illuminator
The Digisight Ultra riflescopes are supplied with a detachable high power IR illuminators (850 nm and 940 nm respectively). The long-range 850 nm IR provides effective observation of remote objects; the 940 nm model operates in the invisible range. Three adjustable IR power levels help choose preferred effective range and illumination level of an object observed.
Accurate Zoom Zeroing
The user can zero the riflescope either at the basic magnification or at a zoom, with the click value decreasing as the zoom value increases. At the maximum magnification reticle step is less than 0.1 MOA. Aiming point is stable in the entire range of magnifications.

Rifle Scope Information

Rifle scopes permit you to precisely align a rifle at various targets by lining up your eye with the target over a distance. They do this through magnifying the target using a series of lenses inside the scope. The scope’s alignment can be adjusted to account for many natural elements like wind speed and elevation increases or decreases to make up for bullet drop.

The scope’s function is to help shooters understand precisely where the bullet will land based upon the sight picture you are seeing using the scope as you align the scope’s crosshair or reticle with the target. The majority of modern rifle scopes have around eleven parts which are found within and outside of the optic. These scope parts include the rifle scope’s body, lenses, modification dials or turrets, objective focus rings, and other components. See all eleven parts of an optic.

Rifle Scope Types

Rifle scopes can be either “first focal plane” or “second focal plane” kind of scopes. The type of focal plane a scope has establishes where the reticle or crosshair is located in relation to the scopes zoom. It simply indicates the reticle is located behind or ahead of the magnification lens of the scope. Looking for the most suitable style of rifle scope is based upon what variety of hunting or shooting you anticipate doing.

First Focal Plane Optic Info

First focal plane scopes (FFP) come with the reticle ahead of the magnifying lens. This triggers the reticle to increase in size based on the level of zoom being used. The outcome is that the reticle measurements are the same at the amplified range as they are at the non amplified range. One tick on a mil-dot reticle at one hundred yards with no “zoom” is still the very same tick at 100 yards by using 5x “zoom”. These kinds of scopes work for:

  • Quick acquisition, far away types of shooting
  • Shooting circumstances where calculations are minimal
  • Experienced shooters who have an idea for their target “hold over” as well as “lead” equations for their firearm
  • Shooters who don’t mind the reticle is bigger and takes up more visual eyesight area than a SFP reticle

Second Focal Plane Optics

Second focal plane optics (SFP) come with the reticle to the rear of the zoom lens. This induces the reticle to stay at the same overall size in connection with the quantity of zoom being used. The final result is that the reticle dimensions adjust based on the magnification applied to shoot over longer distances because the markings present different increments which fluctuate with the zoom level. In the FFP example with the SFP scope, the 5x “zoom” 100 yard tick would be 1/5th of the non “zoom” tick measurement. These particular styles of optics are handy for:

  • Long distance kinds of shooting where shooters have additional time to make ballistic computations
  • Shooting where most of the shots happen within shorter spaces and ranges
  • Shooters who desire a clearer optic sight picture without space used up by the enlarged FFP reticle

Details on Rifle Glass Zoom

The level of scope zoom you need on your glass is based on the style of shooting you want to do. Pretty much every style of rifle glass gives some degree of magnification. The quantity of zoom a scope offers is determined by the dimension, thickness, and curvatures of the lenses within the rifle scope. The magnification of the optic is the “power” of the glass. This indicates what the shooter is checking out through the scope is magnified times the power element of what can usually be seen by human eyes.

Fixed Power Lens Scope Facts

A single power rifle scope uses a zoom number designator like 4×32. This means the zoom power of the scope is 4x power while the objective lens is 32mm. The zoom of this kind of optic can not change since it is fixed.

Adjustable Power Lens Rifle Scope Info

Variable power rifle scopes have adjustable power. These types of scopes will note the magnification amount in a configuration like 2-10×32. These numbers mean the magnification of the scope can be set in between 2x and 10x power. This also incorporates the power levels in-between 2 and 10. The power shift is achieved utilizing the power ring component of the scope near the back of the scope by the eye bell.

Power and Range Correlations

Here are some advised scope power settings and the distances where they can be effectively used. Remember that higher power scopes will not be as effective as lower powered glass because increased zoom can be a detractor. The exact same concept applies to extended distances where the shooter needs to have adequate power to see precisely where to best aim the rifle.

Lens Covering for Optics

All modern-day rifle scope lenses are coated. There are different types and qualities of glass lens finishes. Lens finish can be an essential element of a rifle’s setup when thinking about high-end rifle optics and targeting units. The lenses are one of the most critical parts of the glass due to the fact that they are what your eye looks through while sighting a rifle in on the point of impact. The coating on the lenses shields the lens exterior as well as helps with anti glare capabilities from refracted sunshine and color visibility.

HD Versus ED Lens Coatings

Some scope brands also use “HD” or high-definition lens coatings which use different procedures, polarizations, chemicals, and aspects to draw out different colors and viewable definition through the lens. Some scope manufacturers use “HD” to refer to “ED” indicating extra-low dispersion glass.

Single Glass Lens Finish Versus Multi-Coating

Various optic lenses can also have various finishings applied to them. All lenses generally have at least some type of treatment or coating applied to them before they are used in a rifle scope or optic.

Single covered lenses have a treatment applied to them which is typically a protective and boosting multi-purpose treatment. This lens treatment can shield the lens from scratches while lowering glare and other less beneficial things experienced in the shooting environment while sighting in with the scope. The quality of a single covered lens depends upon the scope designer and just how much you spent on it. The scope’s maker and cost are indications of the lens quality.

Some scope producers also make it a point to specify if their optic lenses are layered or “multi” covered. This means the lens has had several treatments applied to the surfaces. If a lens receives several treatments, it can establish that a producer is taking multiple steps to fight various environmental elements like an anti-glare coating, a scratch resistant anti-abrasion finish, followed by a hydrophilic covering. This additionally does not always mean the multi-coated lens is better than a single covered lens. Being “much better” depends on the maker’s lens treatment innovation and the quality of materials used in building the rifle scope.

Details on Hydrophobic Covering

Water on a lens doesn’t help with preserving a clear sight picture through a scope at all. Many top of the line and military grade scope makers will coat their lenses with a hydrophilic or hydrophobic covering.

Rifle Optic Installation Alternatives

Mounting approaches for scopes can be found in a couple of options. There are the standard scope rings which are individually installed to the optic and one-piece scope mounts which cradle the scope. These different kinds of mounts also typically come in quick release variations which use manual levers which allow rifle shooters to rapidly install and remove the optics.

Hex Key Optic Ring Mounting Solutions

Normal, clamp style mounting scope rings use hex head screws to mount to the flattop style Picatinny scope mount rails on rifles. These types of scope mounts use a couple of separate rings to support the optic, and are made from 7075 T6 billet aluminum which are developed for long range precision shooting. This type of scope mount is wonderful for rifles which need a durable, sound mount which will not move no matter how much the scope is moved or abuse the rifle takes.

Quick-Release Cantilever Optic Ring Mounting Solutions

These types of quick-release rifle scope mounts can be used to quickly attach and take off a scope from a rifle before reattaching it to a different rifle. Several scopes can also be swapped out if they all use a compatible style mount. These types of mounts are convenient for rifles which are transported a lot, to swap out the optic from the rifle for protecting the scope, or for scopes which are used in between multiple rifles or are situationally focused.

Optic Tube Sealing and Gas Purging

Wetness inside your rifle optic can mess up a day of shooting and your costly optic by causing fogging and producing residue within the scope’s tube. Most scopes protect against wetness from going into the scope tube with a series of sealing O-rings which are waterproof. Usually, these water resistant scopes can be immersed beneath 20 or 30 feet of water before the water pressure can force moisture past the O-rings. This should be ample humidity prevention for common use rifles, unless you plan on taking your rifle aboard a watercraft and are worried about the optic still functioning if it goes over the side and you can still find the rifle.

Optic Gas Purging

Another part of avoiding the buildup of wetness within the rifle scope’s tube is filling the tube with a gas like nitrogen. Because this area is already taken up by the gas, the scope is less impacted by temperature shifts and pressure differences from the outdoor environment which may potentially enable water vapor to seep in around the seals to fill the void which would otherwise be there. These are good qualities of a decent rifle scope to look for.
