Airsoft Weapon Magazines Details
Airsoft weapons shoot airsoft BBs. These BBs are usually held in the weapon’s mag. These magazines generally attach to the airsoft weapon similar to the real weapons they are imitated. The types of airsoft gun mags consist of real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity mags.
Airsoft Gun Magazine Types
Airsoft weapon mags come in multiple types like real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity magazines. Real capacity mags, or real-caps, imitate the quantity of airsoft BBs a real weapon would hold, which is generally about 24 to 30 BBs. Mid capability magazines, or mid-caps, allow for more airsoft BB storage with capacities around 120 to 160 BBs.
How Airsoft Magazines Work
Airsoft magazines have a series of internal channels and BB storage spaces. The BBs are usually packed into these channels with a spring attached to the very far end. When the BBs are packed, they compress the spring creating tension. On the load end, a small lock holds the BBs in the mag. When a BB is fired, the airsoft weapon launches the lock for an instant and loads another BB into the gun out of the magazine. HPA, CO2, and GBB weapons, which use compressed air or green gas, will often save the gas or feed air in through the mag. This feeds BBs into the guns for these kinds of systems.
Airsoft Rifle Magazines Information
Airsoft rifle magazines are most typically used in automatic electric guns (AEGs) and some types of sniper rifles. Find out how airsoft guns shoot BBs. The magazines are specific to the type of AEG rifle and all of the types of that rifle are cross-compatible with the mags. The AEG magazines are inserted into the weapon’s magazine well.
Did You Know?
Some airsoft AEG guns and squad automatic weapons like M249 Bravo SAWs and M60s use very large capacity magazines. They can carry up to thousands of airsoft BBs and provide massive amounts of suppressive fire for a unit or fireteam during fights.
Airsoft SMG Magazines
Airsoft SMG mags AEG are similarly separated by weapon design and functional between different submachine guns. Hecker and Koch H&K MP5 AEG mags are made to operate in different MP5s like the MP5K or MP5SD. P90, KRISS Vector, and TMP AEG magazines are constructed to be cross-compatible. These SMG mags also come in real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity versions with BB storage capacities varying from around 24 airsoft BBs with real capacity mags to over 200 BBs with high capacity mags. Rifle Mags for Green Gas and HPA Systems These magazines use air and gas to work so the mags frequently come with builtin gas tanks or pre-tapped for HPA tank connections. The mags used in GBB guns store gas in the mag so the rifle cycles every shot and feeds in the next BB.
Airsoft Pistol Magazines Info
Airsoft pistol magazines are often less flexible when compared to the AEG magazines used in rifles and SMGs. Many airsoft pistol mags hold around 20 to 30 airsoft BBs.
