Airsoft Gun Magazines Details
Airsoft weapons shoot airsoft BBs. These BBs are typically stored in the gun’s mag. These magazines generally attach to the airsoft weapon very similarly to the genuine weapons they are modeled after. The types of airsoft weapon magazines include real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity mags.
Airsoft Gun Mag Types
Airsoft gun mags come in a number of types like real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity magazines. Real capacity mags, or real-caps, mimic the amount of airsoft BBs a genuine weapon would store, which is generally about 24 to 30 BBs. Mid capability mags, or mid-caps, allow for additional airsoft BB storage with capacities about 120 to 160 BBs.
How Airsoft Magazines Work
Airsoft magazines have a series of internal channels and BB storage locations. When a BB is fired, the airsoft weapon launches the latch for a fraction of a second and loads another BB into the weapon out of the mag. CO2, GBB, and HPA weapons, which use high pressure air or green gas, will typically stash the gas or feed air in through the magazine.
Airsoft Rifle Mags
Airsoft rifle magazines are most often used in automatic electric guns (AEGs) and some types of sniper rifles. See how airsoft AEGs work. The magazines are specific to the type of AEG rifle and all of the types of that rifle are cross-compatible with the magazines. The AEG mags are inserted into the weapon’s mag well.
High-Cap LMG Mag Information
Some airsoft AEGs and squad automatic weapons like SAWs use high capacity box magazines. They can carry up to 1000s of BBs and provide fire support for a unit or fireteam.
About Airsoft SMG Mags
Airsoft SMG magazines AEG are similarly separated by weapon model and usable between different submachine guns. Hecker and Koch H&K MP5 AEG mags are made to work in different MP5s like the MP5K or MP5SD. P90, KRISS Vector, and TMP AEG mags are built similarly with cross-compatibility. These SMG magazines also can be found in real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity versions with BB storage capacities ranging from around 24 airsoft BBs with real capacity mags to over 200 BBs with high capacity magazines. Rifle Mags for Green Gas and HPA Systems Green gas rifles (including GBB variations) and guns powered by high pressure air (HPA) frequently have their own custom design depending upon the airsoft gun brand. These mags use air and gas to work so the mags typically include builtin gas storage or pre-tapped for HPA tank connections. The mags used in GBB weapons keep gas in the mag so the rifle cycles every shot and feeds in the next BB. HPA pre-tapped mags use HPA lines which are attached to the valves and allow the pressurized air to stream in through the magazine. This setup feeds the airsoft BBs into the HPA gun.
Airsoft Handgun Magazines
When compared to the AEG mags used in rifles and SMGs, Airsoft handgun magazines are typically less versatile. Handguns mags vary by type and frequently use CO2 or green gas (propane) stored in the magazine. The magazine is inserted into the pistol’s grip like the standard firearm style. Handgun magazines are often interchangeable in between comparable models of the very same airsoft weapon producer, but are often not cross-brand compatible unless they are particularly designed for that purpose. Understanding the different styles of airsoft handguns gives you a better understanding of how their magazines differ. A lot of airsoft pistol magazines store around 20 to 30 airsoft BBs.
