Airsoft Gun Magazines
Airsoft weapons shoot airsoft BBs. These BBs are usually kept in the gun’s magazine. These magazines usually attach to the airsoft gun similar to the genuine weapons they are modeled after. The types of airsoft gun magazines include real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity mags.
Airsoft Weapon Mag Types
Airsoft gun magazines can be found in a handful of styles like real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity mags. These styles most often apply to AEG mags. Real capacity magazines, or real-caps, simulate the supply of airsoft BBs a genuine gun would store, which is usually around 24 to 30 airsoft BBs. Mid capability magazines, or mid-caps, enable more airsoft BB space with capacities around 120 to 160 BBs. High capacity magazines, or high-caps, offer airsoft players the greatest storage space with around 200 rounds of BB storage volume. One point to note about high-cap mags is that airsoft arenas commonly regulate their use because they allow players using way too much ammo to spray and pray throughout games.
Info on How Airsoft Mags Work
Airsoft magazines have a series of internal channels and BB storage locations. The BBs are usually packed into these channels with a spring connected to the very far end. When the BBs are loaded, they compress the spring developing stress. On the load end, a little lock holds the BBs in the magazine. When a BB is fired, the airsoft gun releases the lock for a fraction of a second and loads another BB into the gun out of the magazine. HPA, GBB, and CO2 guns, which use high pressure air or green gas, will frequently store the gas or feed air in through the mag. This feeds BBs into the guns for these types of systems.
Airsoft Rifle Mags Info
Airsoft rifle magazines are frequently used in automatic electric guns (AEGs) and some types of sniper rifles. The magazines are directly related to the type of AEG rifle plus most of the kinds of that rifle are cross-compatible with the magazines. Understand how the inner workings of airsoft guns shoot BBs. The AEG mags are inserted into the weapon’s mag well. M4 design AEG magazines would typically work in all M4 style rifles from a brief CBQ gun with a 10″ barrel made by G and G to a designated marksman rifle (DMR) platform with a 24″ like the guns made by ICS or Tokyo Marui. The exact same cross-compatibility would apply to AK47 AEG mags with swapability in between various AK rifle platforms. AEG rifle mags can keep between 60 to 200+ airsoft BBs.
Airsoft SMG Mags
Airsoft SMG mags AEG are similarly separated by weapon model and functional between various submachine guns. Hecker and Koch H&K MP5 AEG magazines are made to work in different MP5s like the MP5K or MP5SD. P90, KRISS Vector, and TMP AEG magazines are developed similarly. These SMG magazines also are available in real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity variations with BB storage capacities varying from around 24 airsoft BBs with real capacity mags to over 200 BBs with high capacity mags. Rifle Mags for Green Gas and HPA Systems Green gas rifles (including GBB variations) and guns powered by high pressure air (HPA) typically have their own custom design depending on the airsoft gun brand. These magazines use air and gas to function so the magazines typically come with builtin gas storage areas or pre-tapped for HPA tank hookups. The magazines used in GBB weapons store gas in the magazine so the rifle cycles every shot and feeds in the next BB. HPA pre-tapped mags use HPA lines which are attached to the valves and allow the pressurized air to flow in through the mag. This setup feeds the airsoft BBs into the HPA gun.
About Airsoft Handgun Mags
Airsoft pistol magazines are often less flexible when compared to the AEG magazines used in rifles and SMGs. Many airsoft handgun magazines hold around 20 to 30 airsoft BBs.
