Airsoft Gun Magazines Details
Airsoft weapons shoot airsoft BBs. These BBs are normally housed in the gun’s magazine. These magazines typically attach to the airsoft weapon very similarly to the genuine weapons they are imitated. The types of airsoft gun magazines include real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity mags.
About Airsoft Gun Mag Types
Airsoft gun mags can be found in several styles like real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity mags. These types most often apply to AEG magazines. Real capacity magazines, or real-caps, replicate the quantity of airsoft BBs a genuine weapon would keep, which is normally around 24 to 30 airsoft BBs. Mid capability magazines, or mid-caps, enable more airsoft BB space with capacities about 120 to 160 BBs. High capacity mags, or high-caps, offer airsoft players the most storage space with over 200 rounds of BB storage capacity. Something to note about high-cap mags is that airsoft arenas usually restrain their use during games because of players using too much ammo to spray and pray during gameplay.
Information on How Airsoft Magazines Work
Airsoft magazines have a series of internal channels and BB storage zones. The BBs are typically pushed into these channels with a spring attached to the very far end. When the BBs are loaded, they compress the spring developing tension. On the load end, a small latch holds the BBs in the mag. When a BB is fired, the airsoft weapon releases the latch for a split second and loads another BB into the gun out of the mag. CO2, HPA, and GBB guns, which use high pressure air or green gas, will often store the gas or feed air in through the mag. This feeds BBs into the guns for these types of systems.
Information Airsoft Rifle Magazines
Airsoft rifle mags are most often used in automatic electric guns (AEGs) and some types of sniper rifles. See how airsoft guns work. The mags are specific to the type of AEG rifle and all of the types of that rifle are cross-compatible with the mags. The AEG magazines are placed into the weapon’s magazine well.
Did You Know?
Some airsoft AEGs and squad automatic weapons like M249 Bravo SAWs and M60s use very large capacity magazines. They can store up to thousands of BBs and provide fire support for a squad or fireteam during engagements.
Airsoft SMG Mags Information
Airsoft SMG magazines AEG are also separated by gun model and usable between different submachine guns. Hecker and Koch H&K MP5 AEG magazines are made to operate in different MP5s like the MP5K or MP5SD. P90, KRISS Vector, and TMP AEG magazines are usually built to be compatible. These SMG mags also come in real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity variations with BB storage capacities ranging from around 24 airsoft BBs with real capacity mags to over 200 BBs with high capacity magazines. Rifle Magazines for Green Gas and HPA Systems Green gas rifles (including GBB versions) and guns powered by high pressure air (HPA) frequently have their own custom-made style depending upon the airsoft gun brand. These magazines use air and gas to function so the mags often include builtin gas storage or are pre-tapped for HPA tank hookups. The mags used in GBB weapons accumulate gas in the mag so the rifle cycles every shot and feeds in the next BB. HPA pre-tapped magazines use HPA lines which are hooked up to the valves and allow the pressurized air to stream in through the magazine. This setup feeds the airsoft BBs into the HPA weapon.
Airsoft Handgun Magazines Information
Airsoft handgun magazines are frequently less flexible when compared to the AEG mags used in rifles and SMGs. A lot of airsoft handgun magazines can store around 20 to 30 airsoft BBs.
