Info About Airsoft Weapon Magazines
Airsoft weapons shoot airsoft BBs. These BBs are normally stored in the gun’s magazine. These mags usually attach to the airsoft gun similar to the genuine weapons they are designed after. The types of airsoft weapon magazines consist of real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity mags.
Airsoft Weapon Mag Types
Airsoft weapon magazines come in several types like real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity mags. Real capacity mags, or real-caps, replicate the quantity of airsoft BBs a genuine weapon would store, which is typically about 24 to 30 BBs. Mid capability mags, or mid-caps, allow for additional airsoft BB storage with capacities around 120 to 160 BBs.
Airsoft Mag Functionality Details
Airsoft mags have a series of internal channels and BB storage zones. The BBs are generally packed into these channels with a spring attached to the really far end. When the BBs are loaded, they compress the spring creating stress. On the load end, a small lock holds the BBs in the magazine. When a BB is fired, the airsoft gun releases the lock for an instant and loads another BB into the weapon out of the magazine. GBB, CO2, and HPA guns, which use high pressure air or green gas, will often keep the gas or feed air in through the mag. This feeds BBs into the guns for these types of systems.
Airsoft Rifle Mags Info
Airsoft rifle mags are usually used in automatic electric guns (AEGs) and some types of sniper rifles. The magazines are directly related to the kind of AEG rifle plus most of the types of that rifle are cross-compatible with the mags. Understand how the inner workings of airsoft weapons shoot BBs. The AEG magazines are placed into the gun’s mag insertion area. M4 design AEG magazines would usually work in all M4 style rifles from a short CBQ weapon with a 10″ barrel made by KWA to a designated marksman rifle (DMR) platform with a 24″ like the guns made by ICS or Tokyo Marui. The same cross-compatibility would apply to AK47 AEG magazines with swapability between different AK rifle platforms. AEG rifle mags can store in between 60 to 200+ airsoft BBs.
Airsoft SMG Magazines
Airsoft SMG magazines AEG are also separated by gun model and functional between different submachine guns. Hecker and Koch H&K MP5 AEG magazines are made to operate in various MP5s like the MP5K or MP5SD. P90, KRISS Vector, and TMP AEG magazines are constructed to be cross-compatible. These SMG magazines also are available in real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity variations with BB storage capacities varying from around 24 airsoft BBs with real capacity mags to over 200 BBs with high capacity magazines. Rifle Mags for Green Gas and HPA Systems Green gas rifles (including GBB versions) and guns powered by high pressure air (HPA) typically have their own custom design depending upon the airsoft weapon brand. These mags use air and gas to function so the mags frequently feature builtin gas storage areas or are pre-tapped for HPA tank hookups. The magazines used in GBB weapons accumulate gas in the magazine so the rifle cycles every shot and feeds in the next BB. HPA pre-tapped mags use HPA lines which are connected to the valves and let the pressurized air to flow in through the magazine. This setup feeds the airsoft BBs into the HPA weapon.
Airsoft Handgun Mags
When compared to the AEG mags used in smgs and rifles, Airsoft handgun mags are typically less versatile. Handguns mags differ by type and typically use CO2 or green gas (propane) held in the magazine. The magazine is placed into the pistol’s grip like the standard gun style. Handgun magazines are typically interchangeable between similar models of the same airsoft weapon maker, however are typically not cross-brand suitable unless they are particularly developed for that function. Understanding the various styles and types of airsoft pistols can give you more insight to how their mags differ. Many airsoft handgun magazines keep around 20 to 30 airsoft BBs.
