About Airsoft Gun Magazines
Airsoft guns shoot airsoft BBs. These BBs are normally stored in the weapon’s magazine. These mags usually attach to the airsoft weapon similar to the real weapons they are designed after. The kinds of airsoft gun magazines consist of real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity mags.
Airsoft Weapon Mag Types
Airsoft weapon magazines can be found in a number of styles like real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity magazines. These types most often relate to AEG mags for automatic electric guns. Real capacity magazines, or real-caps, simulate the total of airsoft BBs a real weapon would store in bullets, which is generally around 24 to 30 airsoft BBs. Mid capability magazines, or mid-caps, enable more airsoft BB space with capacities about 120 to 160 BBs. High capacity magazines, or high-caps, provide airsoft players the greatest storage with over 200 rounds of BB storage volume. Something to consider about high-cap mags is that airsoft fields frequently restrain their usage due to players firing a lot of ammunition to spray-and-pray during gameplay.
How Airsoft Mags Work
Airsoft magazines have a series of internal channels and BB storage zones. The BBs are normally loaded into these channels with a spring connected to the very far end. When the BBs are filled, they compress the spring creating stress. On the load end, a little latch holds the BBs in the mag. When a BB is fired, the airsoft gun launches the latch for an instant and loads another BB into the gun out of the mag. CO2, HPA, and GBB guns, which use high pressure air or green gas, will frequently store the gas or feed air in through the magazine. This feeds BBs into the guns for these kinds of systems.
Airsoft Rifle Mags Information
Airsoft rifle mags are most typically used in automatic electric guns (AEGs) and some types of sniper rifles. See how airsoft guns shoot BBs. The magazines are particular to the type of AEG rifle and all of the types of that rifle are cross-compatible with the magazines. The AEG magazines are placed into the weapon’s magazine well.
Did You Know?
Some airsoft AEG guns and squad automatic weapons use high capacity box or drum magazines. They can carry up to thousands of BBs and provide massive amounts of suppressive fire for a unit or fireteam during battlefield engagements.
Airsoft SMG Mags
Airsoft SMG mags AEG are usually separated by weapon design and functional between different submachine guns. Hecker and Koch H&K MP5 AEG magazines are made to operate in different MP5s like the MP5K or MP5SD. P90, KRISS Vector, and TMP AEG magazines are constructed similarly. These SMG mags also are available in real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity variations with BB storage capacities varying from around 24 airsoft BBs with real capacity mags to over 200 BBs with high capacity magazines. Rifle Mags for Green Gas and HPA Systems Green gas rifles (including GBB variations) and weapons powered by high pressure air (HPA) typically have their own customized design depending upon the airsoft weapon brand. These mags use air and gas to function so the mags frequently feature builtin gas reservoirs or are pre-tapped for HPA tank connections. The magazines used in GBB guns save gas in the magazine so the rifle cycles every shot and feeds in the next BB. HPA pre-tapped mags use HPA lines which are connected to the valves and help the pressurized air to flow in through the magazine. This setup feeds the airsoft BBs into the HPA gun.
Airsoft Handgun Magazines Details
Airsoft handgun magazines are often less versatile when compared to the AEG magazines used in smgs and rifles. Pistols mags differ by type and often use CO2 or green gas (propane) kept in the mag. The mag is inserted into the pistol’s grip like the basic firearm design. Handgun magazines are typically interchangeable in between similar designs of the same airsoft gun maker, but are typically not cross-brand compatible unless they are particularly designed for that purpose. Learning about the various types of airsoft pistols gives you more insight to how their mags differ. A lot of airsoft pistol mags keep around 20 to 30 airsoft BBs.
