About Airsoft Gun Magazines
Airsoft guns shoot airsoft BBs. These BBs are typically kept in the weapon’s magazine. These magazines typically attach to the airsoft weapon very similarly to the genuine weapons they are imitated. The types of airsoft gun mags consist of real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity mags.
Airsoft Weapon Mag Types
Airsoft weapon mags are available in several different types like real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity magazines. These types most often apply to AEG magazines. Real capacity mags, or real-caps, mimic the total of airsoft BBs a genuine weapon would keep in live ammo, which is typically around 24 to 30 airsoft BBs. Mid capability mags, or mid-caps, allow for more airsoft BB storage with capacities about 120 to 160 BBs. High capacity mags, or high-caps, provide airsoft gamers the greatest storage space with over 200 rounds of BB storage volume. One thing to note about high-cap mags is that airsoft arenas typically limit their use due to players firing an excessive amount of ammunition to spray and pray throughout games.
Airsoft Mag Functionality Details
Airsoft mags have a series of internal channels and BB storage spaces. The BBs are typically packed into these channels with a spring connected to the very far end. When the BBs are packed, they compress the spring producing stress. On the load end, a little lock holds the BBs in the magazine. When a BB is fired, the airsoft gun releases the lock for a split second and loads another BB into the gun out of the magazine. GBB, CO2, and HPA guns, which use compressed air or green gas, will often store the gas or feed air in through the mag. This feeds BBs into the guns for these kinds of systems.
Airsoft Rifle Magazines Info
Airsoft rifle magazines are most often used in automatic electric guns (AEGs) and some types of sniper rifles. Find out how airsoft guns shoot BBs. The magazines are specific to the type of AEG rifle and all of the types of that rifle are cross-compatible with the mags. The AEG magazines are placed into the weapon’s magazine well.
Did You Know?
Some airsoft AEG guns and squad automatic weapons use high capacity box magazines. They can carry up to 1000s of BBs and provide fire support for a squad or fireteam during battlefield engagements.
Airsoft SMG Magazines
Airsoft SMG mags AEG are usually separated by weapon design and usable between various submachine guns. Hecker and Koch H&K MP5 AEG magazines are made to work in different MP5s like the MP5K or MP5SD. P90, KRISS Vector, and TMP AEG magazines are developed similarly with cross-compatibility. These SMG magazines also are available in real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity versions with BB storage capacities ranging from around 24 airsoft BBs with real capacity mags to over 200 BBs with high capacity mags. Rifle Magazines for Green Gas and HPA Systems These magazines use air and gas to operate so the magazines typically come with builtin gas reservoirs or pre-tapped for HPA tank connections. The mags used in GBB guns store gas in the magazine so the rifle cycles every shot and feeds in the next BB.
Airsoft Handgun Magazines Details
When compared to the AEG mags used in smgs and rifles, Airsoft pistol mags are frequently less versatile. Pistols mags vary by type and typically use CO2 or green gas (propane) housed in the magazine. The mag is placed into the handgun’s grip like the standard firearm style. Handgun mags are often interchangeable between similar designs of the same airsoft weapon producer, but are often not cross-brand compatible unless they are particularly designed for that purpose. Learning about the different styles and types of airsoft pistols gives you a better understanding of how their mags work. A lot of airsoft handgun mags store around 20 to 30 airsoft BBs.
