About Airsoft Gun Mags
Airsoft weapons shoot airsoft BBs. These BBs are typically stored in the gun’s mag. These mags usually attach to the airsoft weapon very similarly to the real weapons they are imitated. The types of airsoft weapon magazines include real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity magazines.
Airsoft Weapon Magazine Type Information
Airsoft gun mags come in a few types like real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity magazines. Real capacity magazines, or real-caps, imitate the quantity of airsoft BBs a genuine gun would house, which is usually about 24 to 30 BBs. Mid capability magazines, or mid-caps, allow for more airsoft BB storage with capacities about 120 to 160 BBs.
About How Airsoft Mags Work
Airsoft magazines have a series of internal channels and BB storage areas. The BBs are usually filled into these channels with a spring attached to the extremely far end. When the BBs are loaded, they compress the spring creating stress. On the load end, a small lock holds the BBs in the magazine. When a BB is fired, the airsoft weapon launches the lock for a fraction of a second and loads another BB into the gun out of the magazine. GBB, HPA, and CO2 weapons, which use high pressure air or green gas, will typically store the gas or feed air in through the mag. This feeds BBs into the guns for these kinds of systems.
Airsoft Rifle Magazines Details
Airsoft rifle mags are most typically used in automatic electric guns (AEGs) and some types of sniper rifles. Learn about how airsoft guns shoot BBs. The mags are particular to the type of AEG rifle and all of the types of that rifle are cross-compatible with the mags. The AEG magazines are inserted into the gun’s mag well.
Did You Know?
Some airsoft AEGs and squad automatic weapons like SAWs use very large capacity magazines. They can hold up to thousands of airsoft BBs and provide massive amounts of suppressive fire for a squad or fireteam.
Airsoft SMG Magazines
Airsoft SMG mags AEG are usually separated by weapon model and usable in between different submachine guns. Hecker and Koch H&K MP5 AEG magazines are made to operate in different MP5s like the MP5K or MP5SD. P90, KRISS Vector, and TMP AEG magazines are swappable between the same weapon series. These SMG magazines also are available in real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity variations with BB storage capacities ranging from around 24 airsoft BBs with real capacity mags to over 200 BBs with high capacity magazines. Rifle Magazines for Green Gas and HPA Systems These mags use air and gas to operate so the magazines frequently come with builtin gas reservoirs or pre-tapped for HPA tank hookups. The magazines used in GBB weapons keep gas in the mag so the rifle cycles every shot and feeds in the next BB.
Airsoft Handgun Mags
Airsoft pistol mags are often less versatile when compared to the AEG mags used in smgs and rifles. Pistols mags differ by type and typically use CO2 or green gas (propane) held in the magazine. The mag is placed into the handgun’s grip like the standard firearm style. Handgun magazines are often interchangeable in between similar designs of the same airsoft weapon manufacturer, however are frequently not cross-brand compatible unless they are particularly designed for that purpose. Understanding the different types of airsoft sidearms can give you a better understanding of how their mags function. Many airsoft pistol magazines keep around 20 to 30 airsoft BBs.
