About Airsoft Gun Magazines
Airsoft weapons shoot airsoft BBs. These BBs are normally held in the gun’s magazine. These mags typically connect to the airsoft gun similar to the real weapons they are created after. The types of airsoft weapon mags consist of real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity mags.
Airsoft Weapon Magazine Types
Airsoft weapon mags come in several types like real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity mags. Real capacity mags, or real-caps, imitate the quantity of airsoft BBs a real weapon would hold, which is generally about 24 to 30 BBs. Mid capability mags, or mid-caps, enable for more airsoft BB storage with capacities around 120 to 160 BBs.
How Airsoft Magazines Work
Airsoft magazines have a series of internal channels and BB storage locations. When a BB is fired, the airsoft weapon launches the latch for a split second and loads another BB into the gun out of the mag. HPA, CO2, and GBB guns, which use high pressure air or green gas, will often stash the gas or feed air in through the mag.
Airsoft Rifle Magazines
Airsoft rifle magazines are usually used in automatic electric guns (AEGs) and some types of sniper rifles. The magazines are directly related to the type of AEG rifle and most of the types of that rifle are cross-compatible with the mags. Learn more about how airsoft guns function. The AEG mags are placed into the weapon’s mag well. For instance M4 design AEG magazines would usually operate in all M4 style rifles from a short CBQ weapon with a 10″ barrel made by G and G to a designated marksman rifle (DMR) platform with a 24 inch barrel. The exact same cross-compatibility would relate to AK47 AEG mags with swapability in between various AK rifle platforms. AEG rifle mags can store in between 60 to 200+ airsoft BBs.
Airsoft SMG Mags
Airsoft SMG mags AEG are similarly separated by gun design and usable in between different submachine guns. Hecker and Koch H&K MP5 AEG magazines are made to work in different MP5s like the MP5K or MP5SD. P90, KRISS Vector, and TMP AEG magazines are constructed similarly with cross-compatibility. These SMG mags also are available in real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity variations with BB storage capacities ranging from around 24 airsoft BBs with real capacity mags to over 200 BBs with high capacity magazines. Rifle Magazines for Green Gas and HPA Systems These mags use air and gas to work so the mags typically come with builtin gas tanks or pre-tapped for HPA tank connections. The magazines used in GBB guns store gas in the mag so the rifle cycles every shot and feeds in the next BB.
Airsoft Pistol Magazines Details
When compared to the AEG mags used in smgs and rifles, Airsoft pistol magazines are typically less flexible. Handguns mags vary by type and often use CO2 or green gas (propane) kept in the magazine. The magazine is inserted into the handgun’s grip like the standard gun design. Pistol magazines are typically interchangeable in between comparable models of the same airsoft gun manufacturer, but are typically not cross-brand compatible unless they are specifically designed for that function. Understanding the various styles of airsoft handguns can give you more insight to how their magazines work. A lot of airsoft pistol mags store around 20 to 30 airsoft BBs.
