Airsoft Gun Mags
Airsoft weapons shoot airsoft BBs. These BBs are generally kept in the weapon’s magazine. These mags normally attach to the airsoft weapon similar to the real weapons they are imitated. The kinds of airsoft gun magazines include real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity mags.
About Airsoft Weapon Mag Types
Airsoft weapon mags are available in various kinds like real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity magazines. These styles most often relate to AEG magazines for automatic electric guns. Real capacity magazines, or real-caps, mimic the amount of airsoft BBs a genuine weapon would hold in ammunition, which is usually about 24 to 30 BBs. Mid capability magazines, or mid-caps, enable more airsoft BB storage with capacities around 120 to 160 BBs. High capacity mags, or high-caps, offer airsoft players the greatest storage with around 200 rounds of BB storage capacity. One point to keep in mind about high-cap mags is that airsoft fields frequently limit their use because they allow players shooting way too much ammo to spray-and-pray throughout games.
How Airsoft Magazines Work
Airsoft magazines have a series of internal channels and BB storage areas. The BBs are generally packed into these channels with a spring connected to the really far end. When the BBs are loaded, they compress the spring creating tension. On the load end, a little lock holds the BBs in the mag. When a BB is fired, the airsoft weapon releases the lock for a fraction of a second and loads another BB into the gun out of the mag. HPA, CO2, and GBB weapons, which use high pressure air or green gas, will typically keep the gas or feed air in through the magazine. This feeds BBs into the guns for these kinds of systems.
Airsoft Rifle Magazines Details
Airsoft rifle mags are most frequently used in automatic electric guns (AEGs) and some types of sniper rifles. See how airsoft guns like spring, AEG, and green gas rifles shoot BBs. The mags are specific to the type of AEG rifle and all of the types of that rifle are cross-compatible with the magazines. The AEG magazines are inserted into the weapon’s mag well.
Did You Know?
Some airsoft AEGs and machine guns use very large capacity magazines. They can carry up to 1000s of BBs and provide fire support for a squad or fireteam during fights.
Airsoft SMG Magazines
Airsoft SMG mags AEG are similarly separated by weapon design and usable in between various submachine guns. These SMG mags usually come in real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity variations with BB storage capacities ranging from around 24 airsoft BBs with real capacity mags to over 200 BBs with high capacity magazines. Rifle Mags for Green Gas and HPA Systems Green gas rifles (including GBB variations) and guns powered by high pressure air (HPA) frequently have their own customized design depending on the airsoft gun brand. These magazines use air and gas to work so the magazines typically include builtin gas tanks or are pre-tapped for HPA tank connections. The magazines used in GBB weapons store gas in the magazine so the rifle cycles every shot and feeds in the next BB. HPA pre-tapped mags use HPA lines which are attached to the valves and let the pressurized air to flow in through the magazine. This setup feeds the airsoft BBs into the HPA weapon.
Airsoft Pistol Magazines
Airsoft handgun mags are often less versatile when compared to the AEG mags used in smgs and rifles. Handguns mags vary by type and frequently use CO2 or green gas (propane) housed in the magazine. The magazine is placed into the handgun’s grip like the standard gun style. Handgun magazines are often interchangeable between similar models of the exact same airsoft gun maker, but are often not cross-brand compatible unless they are specifically created for that function. Learning about the specific types of airsoft pistols can give you more insight to how their pistol mags differ. Many airsoft handgun magazines keep around 20 to 30 airsoft BBs.
