Details About Airsoft Gun Magazines
These mags usually attach to the airsoft weapon similar to the genuine weapons they are designed after. The types of airsoft gun magazines consist of real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity magazines.
Airsoft Gun Magazine Type Details
Airsoft weapon magazines come in a number of types like real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity magazines. Real capacity magazines, or real-caps, simulate the amount of airsoft BBs a genuine weapon would store, which is typically about 24 to 30 BBs. Mid capability magazines, or mid-caps, permit for additional airsoft BB storage with capacities around 120 to 160 BBs.
How Airsoft Mags Work
Airsoft mags have a series of internal channels and BB storage areas. The BBs are typically loaded into these channels with a spring connected to the very far end. When the BBs are filled, they compress the spring producing stress. On the load end, a small latch holds the BBs in the magazine. When a BB is fired, the airsoft gun launches the latch for a split second and loads another BB into the weapon out of the magazine. GBB, CO2, and HPA guns, which use high pressure air or green gas, will frequently keep the gas or feed air in through the mag. This feeds BBs into the guns for these types of systems.
Info Airsoft Rifle Magazines
Airsoft rifle mags are usually used in automatic electric guns (AEGs) and some kinds of sniper rifles. The magazines are directly related to the type of AEG rifle and most of the types of that rifle are cross-compatible with the mags. Learn more about how the inner workings of airsoft weapons shoot BBs. The AEG magazines are placed into the gun’s magazine well. M4 style AEG magazines would generally work in all M4 style rifles from a short CBQ gun with a 10 inch barrel made by G and G to a designated marksman rifle (DMR) platform with a 24″ barrel. The very same would apply to AK47 AEG mags with swapability between various AK rifle platforms. AEG rifle magazines can hold in between 60 to 200+ airsoft BBs.
Airsoft SMG Mags
Airsoft SMG mags AEG are also separated by gun design and usable between different submachine guns. Hecker and Koch H&K MP5 AEG magazines are made to operate in different MP5s like the MP5K or MP5SD. P90, KRISS Vector, and TMP AEG magazines are constructed similarly with cross-compatibility. These SMG magazines also come in real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity versions with BB storage capacities ranging from around 24 airsoft BBs with real capacity mags to over 200 BBs with high capacity magazines. Rifle Magazines for Green Gas and HPA Systems These mags use air and gas to operate so the mags often come with builtin gas tanks or pre-tapped for HPA tank connections. The mags used in GBB weapons store gas in the magazine so the rifle cycles every shot and feeds in the next BB.
Airsoft Pistol Magazines
Airsoft handgun mags are often less versatile when compared to the AEG mags used in rifles and SMGs. Handguns mags vary by type and often use CO2 or green gas (propane) housed in the magazine. The magazine is inserted into the handgun’s grip like the standard gun style. Pistol mags are frequently interchangeable between comparable designs of the exact same airsoft weapon manufacturer, however are often not cross-brand suitable unless they are specifically created for that function. Learning about the different styles of airsoft pistols gives you a better understanding of how their mags work. Many airsoft handgun magazines store around 20 to 30 airsoft BBs.
