Airsoft Gun Magazines Information
Airsoft guns shoot airsoft BBs. These BBs are normally stored in the gun’s magazine. These mags typically connect to the airsoft weapon very similarly to the genuine weapons they are designed after. The types of airsoft gun mags consist of real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity magazines.
Airsoft Weapon Magazine Types
Airsoft gun mags come in a number of types like real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity magazines. Real capacity mags, or real-caps, mimic the quantity of airsoft BBs a genuine weapon would store, which is usually about 24 to 30 BBs. Mid capability mags, or mid-caps, allow for additional airsoft BB storage with capacities around 120 to 160 BBs.
How Airsoft Magazines Work
Airsoft magazines have a series of internal channels and BB storage spots. The BBs are typically packed into these channels with a spring attached to the really far end. When the BBs are filled, they compress the spring creating tension. On the load end, a little latch holds the BBs in the mag. When a BB is fired, the airsoft gun releases the lock for a fraction of a second and loads another BB into the gun out of the mag. CO2, GBB, and HPA guns, which use high pressure air or green gas, will often keep the gas or feed air in through the mag. This feeds BBs into the guns for these types of systems.
Airsoft Rifle Magazines Information
Airsoft rifle magazines are most frequently used in automatic electric guns (AEGs) and some types of sniper rifles. Learn about how airsoft guns work. The mags are specific to the type of AEG rifle and all of the types of that rifle are cross-compatible with the mags. The AEG mags are placed into the weapon’s mag well.
High-Cap LMG Mag Facts
Some airsoft AEGs and squad automatic weapons like M249 Bravo SAWs and M60s use high-cap drum magazines. They can hold up to 1000s of airsoft BBs and provide fire support for a unit or fireteam.
Airsoft SMG Mags
Airsoft SMG magazines AEG are also separated by weapon design and usable between various submachine guns. These SMG magazines usually come in real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity versions with BB storage capacities ranging from around 24 airsoft BBs with real capacity mags to over 200 BBs with high capacity mags. Rifle Magazines for Green Gas and HPA Systems Green gas rifles (including GBB variations) and weapons powered by high pressure air (HPA) frequently have their own custom design depending upon the airsoft gun brand. These magazines use air and gas to function so the magazines typically feature builtin gas reservoirs or pre-tapped for HPA tank hookups. The magazines used in GBB guns accumulate gas in the mag so the rifle cycles every shot and feeds in the next BB. HPA pre-tapped magazines use HPA lines which are attached to the valves and enable the pressurized air to flow in through the magazine. This setup feeds the airsoft BBs into the HPA weapon.
Airsoft Pistol Magazines Information
Airsoft handgun mags are often less flexible when compared to the AEG mags used in smgs and rifles. Pistols mags vary by type and often use CO2 or green gas (propane) kept in the mag. The mag is inserted into the handgun’s grip like the standard gun style. Handgun magazines are often interchangeable between comparable designs of the same airsoft gun producer, however are frequently not cross-brand compatible unless they are particularly developed for that purpose. Understanding the different styles of airsoft sidearms can give you more insight to how their pistol mags work. Most airsoft handgun mags save around 20 to 30 airsoft BBs.
