Airsoft Weapon Magazines Information
These mags typically attach to the airsoft gun quite similar to the genuine weapons they are designed after. The types of airsoft gun mags include real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity mags.
Airsoft Gun Magazine Types
Airsoft gun mags come in a number of types like real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity magazines. Real capacity mags, or real-caps, simulate the amount of airsoft BBs a real weapon would store, which is normally about 24 to 30 BBs. Mid capability magazines, or mid-caps, allow for additional airsoft BB storage with capacities around 120 to 160 BBs.
Info on How Airsoft Mags Work
Airsoft mags have a series of internal channels and BB storage locations. When a BB is fired, the airsoft gun launches the lock for a fraction of a second and loads another BB into the weapon out of the magazine. HPA, GBB, and CO2 guns, which use high pressure air or green gas, will frequently house the gas or feed air in through the magazine.
Airsoft Rifle Mags
Airsoft rifle mags are most typically used in automatic electric guns (AEGs) and some types of sniper rifles. See how airsoft guns like spring, AEG, and green gas rifles shoot BBs. The magazines are particular to the type of AEG rifle and all of the types of that rifle are cross-compatible with the mags. The AEG magazines are placed into the gun’s magazine well.
Did You Know?
Some airsoft AEGs and squad automatic weapons like SAWs use high capacity box or drum magazines. They can store up to thousands of airsoft BBs and provide fire support for a unit or fireteam during engagements.
Airsoft SMG Magazines
Airsoft SMG magazines AEG are also separated by gun model and usable in between different submachine guns (SMGs). These SMG magazines usually come in real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity versions with BB storage capacities ranging from around 24 airsoft BBs with real capacity mags to over 200 BBs with high capacity mags. Rifle Mags for Green Gas and HPA Systems Green gas rifles (including GBB versions) and guns powered by high pressure air (HPA) typically have their own custom-made style depending upon the airsoft weapon brand. These mags use air and gas to operate so the mags typically feature builtin gas reservoirs or are pre-tapped for HPA tank hookups. The mags used in GBB guns house gas in the mag so the rifle cycles every shot and feeds in the next BB. HPA pre-tapped magazines use HPA lines which are linked to the valves and help the pressurized air to stream in through the magazine. This setup feeds the airsoft BBs into the HPA gun.
Info on Airsoft Pistol Mags
When compared to the AEG mags used in rifles and SMGs, Airsoft pistol mags are often less flexible. Pistols mags vary by type and typically use CO2 or green gas (propane) housed in the mag. The mag is placed into the handgun’s grip like the basic firearm design. Handgun magazines are typically interchangeable between similar designs of the exact same airsoft gun manufacturer, however are often not cross-brand compatible unless they are particularly developed for that purpose. Understanding the various styles and types of airsoft sidearms can give you more insight to how their magazines work. The majority of airsoft pistol mags keep around 20 to 30 airsoft BBs.
