Airsoft Gun Mags
These mags generally attach to the airsoft weapon the same as the real weapons they are designed after. The types of airsoft gun magazines consist of real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity mags.
Airsoft Weapon Magazine Type Information
Airsoft gun magazines come in a few types like real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity mags. Real capacity mags, or real-caps, simulate the quantity of airsoft BBs a genuine gun would house, which is normally about 24 to 30 BBs. Mid capability mags, or mid-caps, allow for more airsoft BB storage with capacities around 120 to 160 BBs.
How Airsoft Mags Work
Airsoft mags have a series of internal channels and BB storage areas. The BBs are usually pushed into these channels with a spring connected to the very far end. When the BBs are loaded, they compress the spring creating stress. On the load end, a little lock holds the BBs in the magazine. When a BB is fired, the airsoft gun launches the lock for a split second and loads another BB into the weapon out of the mag. GBB, CO2, and HPA guns, which use high pressure air or green gas, will often keep the gas or feed air in through the magazine. This feeds BBs into the guns for these kinds of systems.
Airsoft Rifle Magazines Information
Airsoft rifle magazines are most often used in automatic electric guns (AEGs) and some types of sniper rifles. Find out how airsoft guns shoot BBs. The magazines are specific to the type of AEG rifle and all of the types of that rifle are cross-compatible with the mags. The AEG magazines are placed into the gun’s mag well.
Did You Know?
Some airsoft AEG guns and squad automatic weapons like M249 Bravo SAWs and M60s use very large capacity magazines. They can carry up to 1000s of airsoft BBs and provide fire support for a unit or fireteam.
Information on Airsoft SMG Magazines
Airsoft SMG magazines AEG are similarly separated by gun model and functional between various submachine guns. Hecker and Koch H&K MP5 AEG mags are made to work in various MP5s like the MP5K or MP5SD. P90, KRISS Vector, and TMP AEG mags are usually built to be compatible. These SMG magazines also are available in real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity versions with BB storage capacities ranging from around 24 airsoft BBs with real capacity mags to over 200 BBs with high capacity magazines. Rifle Magazines for Green Gas and HPA Systems Green gas rifles (including GBB variations) and guns powered by high pressure air (HPA) often have their own custom-made style depending on the airsoft gun brand. These magazines use air and gas to function so the mags frequently include builtin gas tanks or are pre-tapped for HPA tank connections. The magazines used in GBB weapons store gas in the mag so the rifle cycles every shot and feeds in the next BB. HPA pre-tapped mags use HPA lines which are linked to the valves and allow the pressurized air to stream in through the magazine. This setup feeds the airsoft BBs into the HPA weapon.
Information on Airsoft Handgun Magazines
Airsoft handgun magazines are often less flexible when compared to the AEG magazines used in rifles and SMGs. A lot of airsoft pistol magazines house around 20 to 30 airsoft BBs.
