Information About Airsoft Gun Magazines
These magazines generally connect to the airsoft weapon very similarly to the genuine weapons they are designed after. The types of airsoft weapon magazines include real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity mags.
Details About Airsoft Weapon Mag Types
Airsoft weapon mags come in a number of types like real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity mags. Real capacity magazines, or real-caps, replicate the quantity of airsoft BBs a real weapon would hold, which is usually about 24 to 30 BBs. Mid capability mags, or mid-caps, allow for more airsoft BB storage with capacities around 120 to 160 BBs.
How Airsoft Magazines Work
Airsoft mags have a series of internal channels and BB storage locations. When a BB is fired, the airsoft gun releases the latch for a fraction of a second and loads another BB into the gun out of the magazine. GBB, HPA, and CO2 guns, which use high pressure air or green gas, will typically store the gas or feed air in through the magazine.
Airsoft Rifle Magazines Details
Airsoft rifle magazines are most frequently used in automatic electric guns (AEGs) and some types of sniper rifles. Learn about how airsoft AEGs work. The magazines are specific to the type of AEG rifle and all of the types of that rifle are cross-compatible with the mags. The AEG mags are inserted into the weapon’s mag well.
Did You Know?
Some airsoft AEGs and light machine guns, or LMGs, use high capacity drum magazines. They can hold up to 1000s of BBs and provide massive amounts of suppressive fire for a unit or fireteam.
Airsoft SMG Magazines
Airsoft SMG magazines AEG are similarly separated by weapon design and functional between different submachine guns. Hecker and Koch H&K MP5 AEG magazines are made to operate in different MP5s like the MP5K or MP5SD. P90, KRISS Vector, and TMP AEG magazines are built similarly. These SMG magazines also come in real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity variations with BB storage capacities varying from around 24 airsoft BBs with real capacity mags to over 200 BBs with high capacity magazines. Rifle Mags for Green Gas and HPA Systems Green gas rifles (including GBB versions) and weapons powered by high pressure air (HPA) typically have their own custom-made style depending on the airsoft gun brand. These magazines use air and gas to work so the magazines often come with builtin gas tanks or are pre-tapped for HPA tank connections. The mags used in GBB weapons keep gas in the magazine so the rifle cycles every shot and feeds in the next BB. HPA pre-tapped magazines use HPA lines which are connected to the valves and let the pressurized air to stream in through the mag. This setup feeds the airsoft BBs into the HPA gun.
Airsoft Pistol Magazines
When compared to the AEG mags used in smgs and rifles, Airsoft handgun mags are often less flexible. Pistols mags differ by type and typically use CO2 or green gas (propane) stored in the magazine. The mag is inserted into the pistol’s grip like the basic firearm style. Handgun mags are typically interchangeable between comparable models of the exact same airsoft weapon producer, however are frequently not cross-brand suitable unless they are particularly developed for that purpose. Learning about the various types of airsoft pistols gives you a better understanding of how their pistol mags differ. Many airsoft handgun magazines keep around 20 to 30 airsoft BBs.
