Airsoft Gun Magazines Information
Airsoft guns shoot airsoft BBs. These BBs are typically housed in the weapon’s mag. These mags normally attach to the airsoft weapon similar to the genuine weapons they are created after. The kinds of airsoft gun magazines consist of real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity mags.
Airsoft Gun Mag Types
Airsoft weapon mags are manufactured in a variety of types like real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity mags. These styles most often apply to AEG mags for automatic electric guns. Real capacity mags, or real-caps, simulate the supply of airsoft BBs a genuine gun would store in bullets, which is usually around 24 to 30 airsoft BBs. Mid capability mags, or mid-caps, allow for more airsoft BB space with capacities around 120 to 160 BBs. High capacity mags, or high-caps, provide airsoft gamers the most storage space with over 200 rounds of BB storage capacity. Something to note about high-cap mags is that airsoft fields often limit their use during games because they allow players shooting a lot of ammunition to spray-and-pray throughout gameplay.
Airsoft Mag Functionality Info
Airsoft mags have a series of internal channels and BB storage zones. The BBs are typically pushed into these channels with a spring connected to the really far end. When the BBs are filled, they compress the spring creating tension. On the load end, a small latch holds the BBs in the mag. When a BB is fired, the airsoft gun releases the lock for a fraction of a second and loads another BB into the gun out of the mag. HPA, CO2, and GBB weapons, which use compressed air or green gas, will typically store the gas or feed air in through the mag. This feeds BBs into the guns for these types of systems.
Airsoft Rifle Mags
Airsoft rifle magazines are most often used in automatic electric guns (AEGs) and some types of sniper rifles. See how airsoft AEGs work. The mags are particular to the type of AEG rifle and all of the types of that rifle are cross-compatible with the magazines. The AEG mags are inserted into the gun’s mag well.
Did You Know?
Some airsoft AEGs and squad automatic weapons use very large capacity magazines. They can carry up to 1000s of airsoft BBs and provide fire support for a squad or fireteam during engagements.
Airsoft SMG Magazines
Airsoft SMG mags AEG are also separated by weapon model and functional in between different submachine guns. These SMG magazines usually come in real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity versions with BB storage capacities ranging from around 24 airsoft BBs with real capacity mags to over 200 BBs with high capacity mags. Rifle Mags for Green Gas and HPA Systems These magazines use air and gas to operate so the magazines typically come with builtin gas reservoirs or pre-tapped for HPA tank connections. The mags used in GBB guns store gas in the mag so the rifle cycles every shot and feeds in the next BB.
Airsoft Handgun Mags
Airsoft pistol mags are typically less flexible when compared to the AEG magazines used in rifles and SMGs. Handguns mags vary by type and often use CO2 or green gas (propane) housed in the magazine. The mag is inserted into the pistol’s grip like the standard gun design. Handgun magazines are typically interchangeable in between similar models of the very same airsoft weapon producer, but are typically not cross-brand compatible unless they are particularly designed for that function. Understanding the different styles and types of airsoft handguns can give you a better understanding of how their magazines work. The majority of airsoft pistol magazines store around 20 to 30 airsoft BBs.
