Airsoft Gun Magazines Information
Airsoft guns shoot airsoft BBs. These BBs are usually stored in the gun’s mag. These mags typically connect to the airsoft weapon similar to the genuine weapons they are created after. The kinds of airsoft gun magazines consist of real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity mags.
About Airsoft Weapon Mag Types
Airsoft weapon mags come in a few types like real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity mags. Real capacity mags, or real-caps, imitate the amount of airsoft BBs a real weapon would store, which is usually about 24 to 30 BBs. Mid capability mags, or mid-caps, allow for more airsoft BB storage with capacities around 120 to 160 BBs.
How Airsoft Mags Work
Airsoft magazines have a series of internal channels and BB storage zones. The BBs are generally filled into these channels with a spring connected to the extremely far end. When the BBs are filled, they compress the spring developing tension. On the load end, a small latch holds the BBs in the magazine. When a BB is fired, the airsoft weapon launches the latch for an instant and loads another BB into the gun out of the mag. GBB, HPA, and CO2 weapons, which use high pressure air or green gas, will often keep the gas or feed air in through the mag. This feeds BBs into the guns for these types of systems.
About Airsoft Rifle Mags
Airsoft rifle mags are most typically used in automatic electric guns (AEGs) and some types of sniper rifles. Learn about how airsoft AEGs work. The mags are particular to the type of AEG rifle and all of the types of that rifle are cross-compatible with the mags. The AEG magazines are inserted into the weapon’s mag well.
High-Cap LMG Mag Facts
Some airsoft AEGs and light machine guns, or LMGs, use very large capacity magazines. They can store up to 1000s of BBs and provide massive amounts of suppressive fire for a squad or fireteam during engagements.
Airsoft SMG Magazines
Airsoft SMG mags AEG are similarly separated by gun model and usable in between various submachine guns. These SMG magazines usually come in real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity variations with BB storage capacities varying from around 24 airsoft BBs with real capacity mags to over 200 BBs with high capacity magazines. Rifle Magazines for Green Gas and HPA Systems Green gas rifles (including GBB variations) and weapons powered by high pressure air (HPA) typically have their own custom design depending on the airsoft gun brand. These magazines use air and gas to function so the mags frequently feature builtin gas storage or are pre-tapped for HPA tank connections. The magazines used in GBB guns store gas in the mag so the rifle cycles every shot and feeds in the next BB. HPA pre-tapped mags use HPA lines which are connected to the valves and let the pressurized air to flow in through the mag. This setup feeds the airsoft BBs into the HPA gun.
Airsoft Pistol Mags Details
When compared to the AEG magazines used in smgs and rifles, Airsoft pistol mags are typically less flexible. Handguns mags vary by type and typically use CO2 or green gas (propane) held in the mag. The magazine is placed into the handgun’s grip like the basic firearm design. Pistol magazines are frequently interchangeable between similar designs of the same airsoft weapon maker, however are frequently not cross-brand compatible unless they are specifically developed for that purpose. Understanding the various styles and types of airsoft sidearms gives you more insight to how their pistol mags differ. Many airsoft handgun mags keep around 20 to 30 airsoft BBs.
