Airsoft Gun Mags
Airsoft weapons shoot airsoft BBs. These BBs are generally housed in the gun’s magazine. These magazines typically connect to the airsoft weapon similar to the real weapons they are designed after. The kinds of airsoft weapon mags include real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity magazines.
About Airsoft Weapon Mag Types
Airsoft gun magazines come in a few types like real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity magazines. Real capacity magazines, or real-caps, replicate the amount of airsoft BBs a real weapon would hold, which is usually about 24 to 30 BBs. Mid capability mags, or mid-caps, allow for more airsoft BB storage with capacities about 120 to 160 BBs.
Airsoft Mag Functionality Details
Airsoft mags have a series of internal channels and BB storage zones. The BBs are typically filled into these channels with a spring attached to the very far end. When the BBs are filled, they compress the spring creating stress. On the load end, a little latch holds the BBs in the mag. When a BB is fired, the airsoft weapon launches the latch for a fraction of a second and loads another BB into the gun out of the magazine. GBB, CO2, and HPA weapons, which use compressed air or green gas, will typically keep the gas or feed air in through the mag. This feeds BBs into the guns for these types of systems.
About Airsoft Rifle Magazines
Airsoft rifle magazines are most frequently used in automatic electric guns (AEGs) and some types of sniper rifles. Learn about how airsoft guns shoot BBs. The magazines are specific to the type of AEG rifle and all of the types of that rifle are cross-compatible with the mags. The AEG mags are inserted into the gun’s magazine well.
High-Cap LMG Magazine Details
Some airsoft AEGs and machine guns use very large capacity magazines. They can carry up to 1000s of BBs and provide fire support for a unit or fireteam.
Information on Airsoft SMG Mags
Airsoft SMG mags AEG are similarly separated by weapon model and functional between different submachine guns. These SMG mags also come in real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity versions with BB storage capacities varying from around 24 airsoft BBs with real capacity mags to over 200 BBs with high capacity magazines. Rifle Mags for Green Gas and HPA Systems These mags use air and gas to operate so the mags typically come with builtin gas reservoirs or pre-tapped for HPA tank hookups. The magazines used in GBB guns save gas in the magazine so the rifle cycles every shot and feeds in the next BB.
About Airsoft Handgun Mags
Airsoft handgun magazines are typically less versatile when compared to the AEG magazines used in rifles and SMGs. Handguns mags vary by type and frequently use CO2 or green gas (propane) stored in the mag. The mag is inserted into the handgun’s grip like the basic gun style. Handgun mags are typically interchangeable in between similar models of the very same airsoft weapon maker, however are often not cross-brand compatible unless they are specifically created for that purpose. Learning about the different styles of airsoft pistols gives you more insight to how their mags work. Most airsoft pistol mags store around 20 to 30 airsoft BBs.
