About Airsoft Weapon Magazines
These mags normally connect to the airsoft gun very similarly to the real weapons they are modeled after. The types of airsoft weapon mags include real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity magazines.
Airsoft Weapon Magazine Types
Airsoft weapon magazines come in a few types like real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity magazines. Real capacity mags, or real-caps, mimic the quantity of airsoft BBs a real gun would house, which is generally about 24 to 30 BBs. Mid capability magazines, or mid-caps, allow for additional airsoft BB storage with capacities about 120 to 160 BBs.
How Airsoft Magazines Work
Airsoft mags have a series of internal channels and BB storage zones. The BBs are usually packed into these channels with a spring connected to the very far end. When the BBs are filled, they compress the spring developing tension. On the load end, a little lock holds the BBs in the mag. When a BB is fired, the airsoft weapon releases the lock for a fraction of a second and loads another BB into the weapon out of the mag. CO2, HPA, and GBB weapons, which use compressed air or green gas, will often store the gas or feed air in through the mag. This feeds BBs into the guns for these types of systems.
Airsoft Rifle Mags
Airsoft rifle magazines are most typically used in automatic electric guns (AEGs) and some types of sniper rifles. Find out how airsoft AEGs work. The magazines are particular to the type of AEG rifle and all of the types of that rifle are cross-compatible with the magazines. The AEG mags are inserted into the gun’s mag well.
High-Cap LMG Mag Information
Some airsoft AEGs and squad automatic weapons like SAWs use high-cap drum magazines. They can carry up to thousands of BBs and provide fire support for a squad or fireteam.
Airsoft SMG Mags Details
Airsoft SMG mags AEG are similarly separated by gun design and usable in between different submachine guns (SMGs). These SMG magazines also come in real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity variations with BB storage capacities varying from around 24 airsoft BBs with real capacity mags to over 200 BBs with high capacity mags. Rifle Mags for Green Gas and HPA Systems These mags use air and gas to work so the magazines frequently come with builtin gas tanks or pre-tapped for HPA tank hookups. The magazines used in GBB weapons save gas in the magazine so the rifle cycles every shot and feeds in the next BB.
Airsoft Pistol Mags
Airsoft handgun magazines are frequently less flexible when compared to the AEG magazines used in smgs and rifles. The majority of airsoft pistol magazines can store around 20 to 30 airsoft BBs.
