Airsoft gun magazines are made in a number of styles like real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity magazines. These types usually apply to AEG magazines for automatic electric guns. Real capacity mags, or real-caps, replicate the amount of airsoft BBs a genuine gun would store, which is normally about 24 to 30 airsoft BBs. Mid capability magazines, or mid-caps, enable more airsoft BB space with capacities around 120 to 160 BBs. High capacity magazines, or high-caps, give airsoft players the most storage space with over 200 rounds of BB storage volume. How Airsoft Magazines Work
Airsoft magazines have a series of internal channels and BB storage areas. The BBs are typically loaded into these channels with a spring connected to the really far end. When the BBs are loaded, they compress the spring developing tension. On the load end, a small lock holds the BBs in the mag. When a BB is fired, the airsoft gun launches the lock for a fraction of a second and loads another BB into the weapon out of the magazine. CO2, GBB, and HPA guns, which use high pressure air or green gas, will often save the gas or feed air in through the mag. This feeds BBs into the guns for these kinds of systems.
