Airsoft Weapon Mags Information
These magazines generally connect to the airsoft weapon quite similar to the genuine weapons they are modeled after. The types of airsoft gun magazines include real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity mags.
Airsoft Weapon Mag Types
Airsoft gun mags are available in a handful of types like real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity magazines. These types frequently apply to AEG magazines. Real capacity magazines, or real-caps, replicate the volume of airsoft BBs a genuine gun would store, which is usually around 24 to 30 BBs. Mid capability mags, or mid-caps, allow for more airsoft BB space with capacities around 120 to 160 BBs. High capacity magazines, or high-caps, offer airsoft players the greatest storage with around 200 rounds of BB storage volume. Something to take note of about high-cap mags is that airsoft fields commonly restrict their use during games due to players shooting a lot of ammo to spray-and-pray throughout games.
About How Airsoft Magazines Work
Airsoft magazines have a series of internal channels and BB storage areas. The BBs are generally filled into these channels with a spring attached to the extremely far end. When the BBs are packed, they compress the spring developing tension. On the load end, a small latch holds the BBs in the mag. When a BB is fired, the airsoft gun releases the latch for a split second and loads another BB into the gun out of the magazine. CO2, GBB, and HPA weapons, which use compressed air or green gas, will often keep the gas or feed air in through the magazine. This feeds BBs into the guns for these kinds of systems.
Airsoft Rifle Magazines
Airsoft rifle mags are most often used in automatic electric guns (AEGs) and some types of sniper rifles. Learn about how airsoft guns work. The magazines are particular to the type of AEG rifle and all of the types of that rifle are cross-compatible with the mags. The AEG magazines are inserted into the gun’s magazine well.
High Capacity LMG Magazine Information
Some airsoft AEG guns and squad automatic weapons use high-cap drum magazines. They can hold up to 1000s of airsoft BBs and provide massive amounts of suppressive fire for a unit or fireteam during engagements.
Airsoft SMG Magazines Information
Airsoft SMG magazines AEG are similarly separated by gun design and functional between various submachine guns. Hecker and Koch H&K MP5 AEG mags are made to operate in various MP5s like the MP5K or MP5SD. P90, KRISS Vector, and TMP AEG mags are constructed to be cross-compatible. These SMG magazines also are available in real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity versions with BB storage capacities varying from around 24 airsoft BBs with real capacity mags to over 200 BBs with high capacity mags. Rifle Magazines for Green Gas and HPA Systems These mags use air and gas to work so the magazines often come with builtin gas tanks or pre-tapped for HPA tank hookups. The mags used in GBB weapons store gas in the magazine so the rifle cycles every shot and feeds in the next BB.
Airsoft Handgun Mags
Airsoft pistol mags are often less versatile when compared to the AEG magazines used in rifles and SMGs. Pistols mags differ by type and often use CO2 or green gas (propane) housed in the mag. The mag is inserted into the pistol’s grip like the basic gun style. Handgun mags are often interchangeable between comparable models of the exact same airsoft gun manufacturer, but are frequently not cross-brand suitable unless they are specifically created for that function. Learning about the specific types of airsoft sidearms gives you more insight to how their mags function. The majority of airsoft pistol mags save around 20 to 30 airsoft BBs.
