Airsoft Weapon Magazines
Airsoft guns shoot airsoft BBs. These BBs are usually stored in the weapon’s mag. These mags typically attach to the airsoft gun very similarly to the genuine weapons they are designed after. The kinds of airsoft gun mags consist of real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity mags.
Airsoft Gun Mag Type Info
Airsoft weapon mags are made in several kinds like real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity mags. These styles usually relate to AEG mags for automatic electric guns. Real capacity magazines, or real-caps, replicate the quantity of airsoft BBs a genuine weapon would store, which is usually around 24 to 30 BBs. Mid capability mags, or mid-caps, permit more airsoft BB storage with capacities about 120 to 160 BBs. High capacity mags, or high-caps, give airsoft players the most storage space with around 200 rounds of BB storage volume. Something to consider about high-cap mags is that airsoft fields usually regulate their use during games due to players using an excessive amount of ammunition to spray-and-pray during gameplay.
How Airsoft Magazines Work
Airsoft magazines have a series of internal channels and BB storage areas. The BBs are normally packed into these channels with a spring attached to the very far end. When the BBs are packed, they compress the spring producing stress. On the load end, a little latch holds the BBs in the magazine. When a BB is fired, the airsoft weapon releases the latch for a fraction of a second and loads another BB into the weapon out of the magazine. CO2, GBB, and HPA weapons, which use compressed air or green gas, will typically store the gas or feed air in through the mag. This feeds BBs into the guns for these types of systems.
About Airsoft Rifle Magazines
Airsoft rifle mags are most often used in automatic electric guns (AEGs) and some types of sniper rifles. See how airsoft guns shoot BBs. The magazines are particular to the type of AEG rifle and all of the types of that rifle are cross-compatible with the mags. The AEG mags are placed into the gun’s mag well.
High Capacity LMG Magazine Facts
Some airsoft AEGs and light machine guns, or LMGs, use high-cap box magazines. They can store up to 1000s of BBs and provide massive amounts of suppressive fire for a squad or fireteam.
Airsoft SMG Mags
Airsoft SMG mags AEG are also separated by gun design and functional between different submachine guns. Hecker and Koch H&K MP5 AEG magazines are made to operate in different MP5s like the MP5K or MP5SD. P90, KRISS Vector, and TMP AEG magazines are swappable between the same weapon series. These SMG mags also are available in real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity variations with BB storage capacities ranging from around 24 airsoft BBs with real capacity mags to over 200 BBs with high capacity magazines. Rifle Magazines for Green Gas and HPA Systems These magazines use air and gas to work so the magazines often come with builtin gas reservoirs or pre-tapped for HPA tank connections. The magazines used in GBB weapons store gas in the magazine so the rifle cycles every shot and feeds in the next BB.
Information on Airsoft Handgun Mags
Airsoft handgun magazines are often less flexible when compared to the AEG magazines used in rifles and SMGs. Many airsoft pistol mags can store around 20 to 30 airsoft BBs.
