About Airsoft Gun Mags
Airsoft weapons shoot airsoft BBs. These BBs are usually kept in the gun’s mag. These magazines generally connect to the airsoft weapon similar to the real weapons they are modeled after. The kinds of airsoft gun mags consist of real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity magazines.
Airsoft Gun Magazine Types
Airsoft weapon mags are available in multiple styles like real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity magazines. These kinds most often relate to AEG mags. Real capacity mags, or real-caps, replicate the amount of airsoft BBs a genuine gun would hold in ammunition, which is usually about 24 to 30 BBs. Mid capability magazines, or mid-caps, enable more airsoft BB storage with capacities around 120 to 160 BBs. High capacity magazines, or high-caps, provide airsoft players the greatest storage space with around 200 rounds of BB storage capacity. One thing to note about high-cap mags is that airsoft arenas frequently restrict their use during games because they allow players firing way too much ammo to spray and pray throughout games.
How Airsoft Magazines Work
Airsoft mags have a series of internal channels and BB storage areas. The BBs are normally pushed into these channels with a spring attached to the extremely far end. When the BBs are loaded, they compress the spring developing stress. On the load end, a little lock holds the BBs in the mag. When a BB is fired, the airsoft weapon launches the latch for a fraction of a second and loads another BB into the weapon out of the magazine. GBB, CO2, and HPA weapons, which use compressed air or green gas, will frequently store the gas or feed air in through the mag. This feeds BBs into the guns for these types of systems.
Info Airsoft Rifle Mags
Airsoft rifle mags are usually used in automatic electric guns (AEGs) and some kinds of sniper rifles. The mags are related to the kind of AEG rifle and most of the kinds of that rifle are cross-compatible with the mags. Learn more about how airsoft weapons function. The AEG mags are placed into the weapon’s magazine well. For instance M4 design AEG mags would usually operate in all M4 design rifles from a short CBQ gun with a 10 inch barrel made by KWA to a designated marksman rifle (DMR) platform with a 24″ made by Lancer Tactical or Elite Force. The same idea would apply to AK47 AEG magazines with swapability between various AK rifle platforms. AEG rifle mags can store in between 60 to 200+ airsoft BBs.
Airsoft SMG Mags Details
Airsoft SMG mags AEG are also separated by weapon model and usable between different submachine guns. Hecker and Koch H&K MP5 AEG mags are made to operate in various MP5s like the MP5K or MP5SD. P90, KRISS Vector, and TMP AEG magazines are usually built to be compatible. These SMG magazines also come in real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity variations with BB storage capacities varying from around 24 airsoft BBs with real capacity mags to over 200 BBs with high capacity magazines. Rifle Magazines for Green Gas and HPA Systems Green gas rifles (including GBB variations) and guns powered by high pressure air (HPA) typically have their own customized design depending upon the airsoft gun brand. These magazines use air and gas to operate so the mags typically come with builtin gas storage or pre-tapped for HPA tank connections. The mags used in GBB weapons keep gas in the mag so the rifle cycles every shot and feeds in the next BB. HPA pre-tapped mags use HPA lines which are linked to the valves and enable the pressurized air to stream in through the mag. This setup feeds the airsoft BBs into the HPA gun.
Info on Airsoft Handgun Mags
Airsoft handgun magazines are typically less flexible when compared to the AEG magazines used in smgs and rifles. The majority of airsoft handgun mags hold around 20 to 30 airsoft BBs.
