Airsoft Gun Magazines Details
Airsoft guns shoot airsoft BBs. These BBs are normally housed in the gun’s magazine. These magazines typically connect to the airsoft gun very similarly to the real weapons they are created after. The kinds of airsoft weapon magazines include real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity mags.
Airsoft Gun Magazine Types
Airsoft weapon mags are available in a number of styles like real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity magazines. These styles usually involve AEG magazines. Real capacity magazines, or real-caps, mimic the amount of airsoft BBs a genuine weapon would store in bullets, which is normally around 24 to 30 airsoft BBs. Mid capability magazines, or mid-caps, permit more airsoft BB space with capacities around 120 to 160 BBs. High capacity mags, or high-caps, offer airsoft players the most storage with over 200 rounds of BB storage capacity. Something to take note of about high-cap mags is that airsoft arenas often restrain their usage because they allow players firing a lot of ammo to spray-and-pray during games.
How Airsoft Mags Work
Airsoft mags have a series of internal channels and BB storage spaces. The BBs are generally filled into these channels with a spring attached to the very far end. When the BBs are packed, they compress the spring producing tension. On the load end, a little lock holds the BBs in the magazine. When a BB is fired, the airsoft weapon launches the latch for a fraction of a second and loads another BB into the gun out of the mag. CO2, GBB, and HPA guns, which use compressed air or green gas, will typically keep the gas or feed air in through the mag. This feeds BBs into the guns for these kinds of systems.
About Airsoft Rifle Mags
Airsoft rifle magazines are most typically used in automatic electric guns (AEGs) and some types of sniper rifles. Learn about how airsoft AEGs work. The magazines are specific to the type of AEG rifle and all of the types of that rifle are cross-compatible with the magazines. The AEG mags are placed into the gun’s magazine well.
About High Capacity LMG Magazines
Some airsoft AEG guns and squad machine guns use high-cap box or drum magazines. They can carry up to thousands of BBs and provide fire support for a squad or fireteam.
About Airsoft SMG Magazines
Airsoft SMG mags AEG are similarly separated by weapon model and usable between various submachine guns. Hecker and Koch H&K MP5 AEG magazines are made to work in various MP5s like the MP5K or MP5SD. P90, KRISS Vector, and TMP AEG mags are developed to be cross-compatible. These SMG mags also are available in real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity versions with BB storage capacities varying from around 24 airsoft BBs with real capacity mags to over 200 BBs with high capacity mags. Rifle Magazines for Green Gas and HPA Systems These mags use air and gas to work so the mags often come with builtin gas reservoirs or pre-tapped for HPA tank hookups. The magazines used in GBB weapons keep gas in the magazine so the rifle cycles every shot and feeds in the next BB.
Airsoft Pistol Magazines
Airsoft handgun magazines are typically less flexible when compared to the AEG magazines used in smgs and rifles. Most airsoft pistol mags hold around 20 to 30 airsoft BBs.
