Airsoft Weapon Magazines
These magazines typically attach to the airsoft gun very similarly to the real weapons they are modeled after. The types of airsoft weapon magazines include real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity mags.
Airsoft Weapon Mag Type Details
Airsoft weapon mags come in multiple types like real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity magazines. Real capacity magazines, or real-caps, replicate the amount of airsoft BBs a genuine gun would store, which is usually about 24 to 30 BBs. Mid capability magazines, or mid-caps, enable for additional airsoft BB storage with capacities around 120 to 160 BBs.
Info on How Airsoft Mags Work
Airsoft magazines have a series of internal channels and BB storage areas. The BBs are normally packed into these channels with a spring attached to the very far end. When the BBs are loaded, they compress the spring producing tension. On the load end, a little latch holds the BBs in the magazine. When a BB is fired, the airsoft weapon releases the lock for an instant and loads another BB into the weapon out of the mag. CO2, GBB, and HPA guns, which use compressed air or green gas, will frequently store the gas or feed air in through the mag. This feeds BBs into the guns for these types of systems.
Airsoft Rifle Magazines Info
Airsoft rifle mags are most typically used in automatic electric guns (AEGs) and some types of sniper rifles. See how airsoft guns work. The magazines are specific to the type of AEG rifle and all of the types of that rifle are cross-compatible with the mags. The AEG mags are inserted into the weapon’s magazine well.
High Capacity LMG Magazine Details
Some airsoft AEG guns and light machine guns, or LMGs, use very large capacity magazines. They can carry up to thousands of airsoft BBs and provide massive amounts of suppressive fire for a squad or fireteam during fights.
Airsoft SMG Mags Info
Airsoft SMG magazines AEG are similarly separated by gun model and usable between different submachine guns (SMGs). These SMG mags usually come in real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity variations with BB storage capacities varying from around 24 airsoft BBs with real capacity mags to over 200 BBs with high capacity magazines. Rifle Mags for Green Gas and HPA Systems Green gas rifles (consisting of GBB variations) and guns powered by high pressure air (HPA) frequently have their own custom-made design depending upon the airsoft gun brand. These magazines use air and gas to operate so the magazines typically include builtin gas tanks or are pre-tapped for HPA tank hookups. The magazines used in GBB guns house gas in the mag so the rifle cycles every shot and feeds in the next BB. HPA pre-tapped magazines use HPA lines which are linked to the valves and allow the pressurized air to stream in through the mag. This setup feeds the airsoft BBs into the HPA gun.
Airsoft Handgun Mags Information
When compared to the AEG magazines used in rifles and SMGs, Airsoft pistol mags are often less flexible. Pistols mags vary by type and often use CO2 or green gas (propane) kept in the mag. The magazine is inserted into the pistol’s grip like the standard firearm design. Pistol mags are typically interchangeable between comparable models of the exact same airsoft gun manufacturer, but are typically not cross-brand suitable unless they are specifically designed for that purpose. Learning about the specific styles of airsoft pistols can give you more insight to how their magazines differ. Most airsoft pistol magazines store around 20 to 30 airsoft BBs.
