About Airsoft Gun Mags
Airsoft weapons shoot airsoft BBs. These BBs are generally stored in the weapon’s magazine. These magazines typically attach to the airsoft gun very similarly to the real weapons they are created after. The kinds of airsoft gun mags include real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity mags.
Airsoft Gun Mag Types
Airsoft weapon mags come in multiple types like real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity mags. Real capacity mags, or real-caps, replicate the amount of airsoft BBs a genuine weapon would house, which is usually about 24 to 30 BBs. Mid capability mags, or mid-caps, allow for additional airsoft BB storage with capacities about 120 to 160 BBs.
How Airsoft Magazines Work
Airsoft mags have a series of internal channels and BB storage spaces. The BBs are normally packed into these channels with a spring connected to the extremely far end. When the BBs are packed, they compress the spring creating stress. On the load end, a small latch holds the BBs in the magazine. When a BB is fired, the airsoft gun launches the lock for a fraction of a second and loads another BB into the gun out of the magazine. HPA, CO2, and GBB guns, which use compressed air or green gas, will often keep the gas or feed air in through the magazine. This feeds BBs into the guns for these kinds of systems.
Airsoft Rifle Mags
Airsoft rifle mags are frequently used in automatic electric guns (AEGs) and some kinds of sniper rifles. The magazines are directly related to the kind of AEG rifle and all of the types of that rifle are cross-compatible with the magazines. See how the inner workings of airsoft guns shoot BBs. The AEG magazines are inserted into the weapon’s magazine insertion area. M4 design AEG mags would normally work in all M4 style rifles from a brief CBQ gun with a 10 inch barrel made by KWA to a designated marksman rifle (DMR) platform with a 24 inch barrel. The exact same cross-compatibility would apply to AK47 AEG mags with swapability in between different AK rifle platforms. AEG rifle mags can keep between 60 to 200+ airsoft BBs.
Airsoft SMG Magazines
Airsoft SMG mags AEG are also separated by gun model and usable in between various submachine guns. Hecker and Koch H&K MP5 AEG magazines are made to work in different MP5s like the MP5K or MP5SD. P90, KRISS Vector, and TMP AEG magazines are swappable between the same weapon series. These SMG magazines also can be found in real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity versions with BB storage capacities ranging from around 24 airsoft BBs with real capacity mags to over 200 BBs with high capacity magazines. Rifle Mags for Green Gas and HPA Systems Green gas rifles (consisting of GBB variations) and weapons powered by high pressure air (HPA) typically have their own custom-made style depending upon the airsoft weapon brand. These magazines use air and gas to function so the mags frequently feature builtin gas tanks or pre-tapped for HPA tank connections. The magazines used in GBB guns store gas in the mag so the rifle cycles every shot and feeds in the next BB. HPA pre-tapped mags use HPA lines which are linked to the valves and help the pressurized air to stream in through the magazine. This setup feeds the airsoft BBs into the HPA weapon.
Airsoft Handgun Mags
When compared to the AEG mags used in smgs and rifles, Airsoft handgun mags are frequently less flexible. Pistols mags differ by type and often use CO2 or green gas (propane) kept in the mag. The magazine is placed into the pistol’s grip like the basic firearm design. Pistol magazines are typically interchangeable between similar models of the very same airsoft weapon manufacturer, however are typically not cross-brand suitable unless they are specifically designed for that function. Learning about the specific styles of airsoft pistols gives you a better understanding of how their mags differ. Most airsoft handgun mags store around 20 to 30 airsoft BBs.
