Airsoft Weapon Mags
Airsoft weapons shoot airsoft BBs. These BBs are typically housed in the weapon’s mag. These mags typically connect to the airsoft gun very similarly to the real weapons they are imitated. The types of airsoft weapon magazines consist of real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity magazines.
Airsoft Gun Magazine Types
Airsoft weapon magazines come in a few types like real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity mags. Real capacity magazines, or real-caps, imitate the amount of airsoft BBs a real weapon would hold, which is usually about 24 to 30 BBs. Mid capability magazines, or mid-caps, allow for additional airsoft BB storage with capacities around 120 to 160 BBs.
How Airsoft Mags Work
Airsoft magazines have a series of internal channels and BB storage areas. The BBs are usually filled into these channels with a spring attached to the very far end. When the BBs are filled, they compress the spring producing tension. On the load end, a little latch holds the BBs in the mag. When a BB is fired, the airsoft weapon launches the lock for a fraction of a second and loads another BB into the gun out of the magazine. HPA, CO2, and GBB weapons, which use compressed air or green gas, will typically store the gas or feed air in through the mag. This feeds BBs into the guns for these types of systems.
Airsoft Rifle Mags Details
Airsoft rifle mags are most frequently used in automatic electric guns (AEGs) and some types of sniper rifles. See how airsoft guns shoot BBs. The mags are specific to the type of AEG rifle and all of the types of that rifle are cross-compatible with the magazines. The AEG mags are placed into the weapon’s magazine well.
About High-Cap LMG Mags
Some airsoft AEGs and squad automatic weapons like SAWs use high-cap box or drum magazines. They can hold up to thousands of airsoft BBs and provide fire support for a unit or fireteam.
Airsoft SMG Mags
Airsoft SMG magazines AEG are usually separated by gun design and usable between various submachine guns. Hecker and Koch H&K MP5 AEG magazines are made to operate in various MP5s like the MP5K or MP5SD. P90, KRISS Vector, and TMP AEG mags are swappable between the same weapon series. These SMG mags also come in real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity variations with BB storage capacities ranging from around 24 airsoft BBs with real capacity mags to over 200 BBs with high capacity magazines. Rifle Mags for Green Gas and HPA Systems These magazines use air and gas to function so the magazines often come with builtin gas reservoirs or pre-tapped for HPA tank connections. The magazines used in GBB weapons keep gas in the magazine so the rifle cycles every shot and feeds in the next BB.
Details About Airsoft Pistol Mags
When compared to the AEG magazines used in rifles and SMGs, Airsoft pistol magazines are typically less flexible. Handguns mags differ by type and typically use CO2 or green gas (propane) kept in the mag. The mag is inserted into the pistol’s grip like the basic gun style. Handgun mags are often interchangeable in between similar designs of the very same airsoft gun manufacturer, but are often not cross-brand compatible unless they are particularly developed for that purpose. Understanding the specific styles of airsoft pistols gives you a better understanding of how their magazines differ. Most airsoft pistol mags store around 20 to 30 airsoft BBs.
