Airsoft Gun Mags
These mags typically connect to the airsoft weapon the same as the real weapons they are modeled after. The types of airsoft gun magazines include real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity mags.
Airsoft Weapon Mag Type Details
Airsoft weapon mags are made in multiple styles like real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity mags. These kinds usually involve AEG mags for automatic electric guns. Real capacity mags, or real-caps, simulate the total of airsoft BBs a real gun would store, which is generally around 24 to 30 BBs. Mid capability magazines, or mid-caps, allow for more airsoft BB storage with capacities around 120 to 160 BBs. High capacity magazines, or high-caps, give airsoft players the most storage with around 200 rounds of BB storage volume. One point to take note of about high-cap mags is that airsoft arenas frequently regulate their use because of players using way too much ammo to spray-and-pray during games.
How Airsoft Magazines Work
Airsoft magazines have a series of internal channels and BB storage spaces. The BBs are normally filled into these channels with a spring attached to the really far end. When the BBs are filled, they compress the spring creating tension. On the load end, a little latch holds the BBs in the mag. When a BB is fired, the airsoft gun releases the latch for a split second and loads another BB into the gun out of the magazine. CO2, HPA, and GBB weapons, which use high pressure air or green gas, will typically store the gas or feed air in through the mag. This feeds BBs into the guns for these kinds of systems.
Airsoft Rifle Magazines
Airsoft rifle mags are most frequently used in automatic electric guns (AEGs) and some types of sniper rifles. Learn about how airsoft guns shoot BBs. The mags are specific to the type of AEG rifle and all of the types of that rifle are cross-compatible with the mags. The AEG mags are placed into the gun’s mag well.
Did You Know?
Some airsoft AEGs and squad automatic weapons like M249 Bravo SAWs and M60s use high capacity box or drum magazines. They can store up to 1000s of airsoft BBs and provide fire support for a unit or fireteam during battlefield engagements.
Airsoft SMG Magazines Info
Airsoft SMG magazines AEG are also separated by weapon design and usable in between various submachine guns. Hecker and Koch H&K MP5 AEG magazines are made to work in different MP5s like the MP5K or MP5SD. P90, KRISS Vector, and TMP AEG mags are built to be cross-compatible. These SMG magazines also can be found in real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity variations with BB storage capacities ranging from around 24 airsoft BBs with real capacity mags to over 200 BBs with high capacity mags. Rifle Magazines for Green Gas and HPA Systems These magazines use air and gas to function so the mags typically come with builtin gas reservoirs or pre-tapped for HPA tank hookups. The magazines used in GBB weapons keep gas in the mag so the rifle cycles every shot and feeds in the next BB.
Airsoft Pistol Magazines Info
Airsoft handgun mags are frequently less flexible when compared to the AEG magazines used in smgs and rifles. Many airsoft pistol mags house around 20 to 30 airsoft BBs.
