Airsoft Gun Magazines
These mags typically attach to the airsoft weapon very similarly to the real weapons they are designed after. The types of airsoft weapon mags consist of real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity magazines.
Airsoft Weapon Magazine Types
Airsoft gun mags come in a few types like real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity magazines. Real capacity magazines, or real-caps, simulate the amount of airsoft BBs a real gun would house, which is usually about 24 to 30 BBs. Mid capability mags, or mid-caps, permit for more airsoft BB storage with capacities around 120 to 160 BBs.
How Airsoft Magazines Work
Airsoft mags have a series of internal channels and BB storage areas. The BBs are normally pushed into these channels with a spring connected to the very far end. When the BBs are loaded, they compress the spring creating tension. On the load end, a small latch holds the BBs in the mag. When a BB is fired, the airsoft gun launches the lock for a split second and loads another BB into the weapon out of the magazine. HPA, CO2, and GBB weapons, which use compressed air or green gas, will often save the gas or feed air in through the mag. This feeds BBs into the guns for these kinds of systems.
Information Airsoft Rifle Magazines
Airsoft rifle mags are most frequently used in automatic electric guns (AEGs) and some types of sniper rifles. Learn about how airsoft guns shoot BBs. The magazines are specific to the type of AEG rifle and all of the types of that rifle are cross-compatible with the mags. The AEG mags are inserted into the gun’s magazine well.
About High Capacity LMG Mags
Some airsoft AEGs and squad automatic weapons use high-cap drum magazines. They can store up to 1000s of BBs and provide fire support for a squad or fireteam during engagements.
Airsoft SMG Magazines Information
Airsoft SMG mags AEG are similarly separated by weapon design and functional in between various submachine guns. These SMG mags also come in real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity variations with BB storage capacities varying from around 24 airsoft BBs with real capacity mags to over 200 BBs with high capacity mags. Rifle Magazines for Green Gas and HPA Systems Green gas rifles (including GBB variations) and guns powered by high pressure air (HPA) frequently have their own customized style depending on the airsoft weapon brand. These magazines use air and gas to function so the magazines often include builtin gas reservoirs or are pre-tapped for HPA tank hookups. The magazines used in GBB guns house gas in the mag so the rifle cycles every shot and feeds in the next BB. HPA pre-tapped mags use HPA lines which are linked to the valves and enable the pressurized air to flow in through the magazine. This setup feeds the airsoft BBs into the HPA weapon.
Airsoft Handgun Magazines Details
Airsoft handgun mags are typically less flexible when compared to the AEG mags used in rifles and SMGs. The majority of airsoft handgun mags hold around 20 to 30 airsoft BBs.
