What is airsoft?
Airsoft is a shooting sport where game players use airsoft guns like pistols and rifles to shoot 6mm plastic BBs. The gameplay can include a variety of objective based scenarios and group style games where participants and teams of game players battle for victory. Airsoft groups can differ in size from a couple of players to many teams, fire teams, and units based on the scale of the field and participant turnout. Larger sized fields and airsoft tournaments can host hundreds as well as thousands of game players depending upon the area of operations (AO).
Primary airsoft weapons include the AK47 Kalashnikov, Heckler and Koch H&K G36, Colt M4 Carbine style assault rifles which are reproduced using automatic electric (AEG) airsoft weapons. Sidearms usually consist of Beretta M9, 1911, or Glock pistols which are carried as airsoft green gas or CO2 airsoft pistol variations.
Airsoft game players typically dress in camo patterns for games along with headgear like tactical vests and tactical helmets configured with pouches. Each opposing airsoft team often wears a specific pattern to assist in determining friendly and hostile forces. The most common patterns consist of army battle dress uniforms (BDUs) like woodland camouflage, desert camouflage, digital camouflage, and MultiCam. A colored band can be worn on the arm to designate opposing forces if teams can not be separated by uniform.
The targets airsoft weapons are shot at can differ depending on game type. A lot of the targets engaged with airsoft guns are other participants throughout force-on-force battles.
There are many types of airsoft games. They include attack and defense games, point based games, and location based-objectives. Specific game types are control the flag, disable the explosive, zombie base, deathmatch (free for all), team deathmatch, last team standing, gun games inspired by Counter Strike Global Offensive (CSGO), hostage rescue, and other similar missions. The kinds of airsoft missions are basically endless as game players make more kinds all of the time.
What is Milsim
Military simulation airsoft, or milsim, is often a big part of airsoft. Many of the airsoft uniforms, guns, and objectives are replications of realistic firearms, military uniforms, and real-world objectives out of the history books.
Milsim airsoft weapons are based on the era and feature preferred weapons at the time of the mission. The M16A1 rifle has the timeless look of a Vietnam age assault rifle, while other airsoft rifles like the Heckler & Koch HK416 and IWI TAVOR TAR-21 are much more contemporary. In stringent milsim gameplay, weapons must be consistent with the age, use associated add-ons, and be correctly modded.
A modern-day U.S. Navy Seal milsim uniform and loadout could integrate a Navy Working Uniform (NWU) camo pattern with a London Bridge Trading LBT-6094 Plate Carrier Gen II AOR1 and a ballistic helmet like the Ops-Core FAST SF Super High Cut Helmet. This saves money given that the real equipment can cost thousands of dollars and be lighter to wear on the airsoft field.
The objectives carried out during milsim operations consist of historic reenactments and objectives set as historical fiction. Have you ever wished to storm the beaches of Normandy, fight for the 38th Parallel, or deal with the drug lords of Mogadishu during Blackhawk Down? Milsim blended with airsoft is one way you can actively join in and experience military history.
