Airsoft Gun Mags
These magazines normally attach to the airsoft weapon quite similar to the real weapons they are designed after. The types of airsoft gun magazines consist of real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity magazines.
Airsoft Weapon Magazine Types
Airsoft gun mags come in a couple of types like real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity magazines. These styles most often relate to AEG magazines. Real capacity mags, or real-caps, simulate the quantity of airsoft BBs a real weapon would keep, which is normally about 24 to 30 airsoft BBs. Mid capability magazines, or mid-caps, allow for more airsoft BB space with capacities around 120 to 160 BBs. High capacity mags, or high-caps, provide airsoft gamers the most storage with around 200 rounds of BB storage volume. One thing to note about high-cap mags is that airsoft arenas frequently limit their use due to players shooting way too much ammo to spray-and-pray throughout games.
How Airsoft Mags Work
Airsoft mags have a series of internal channels and BB storage zones. The BBs are usually filled into these channels with a spring attached to the very far end. When the BBs are loaded, they compress the spring developing tension. On the load end, a little latch holds the BBs in the mag. When a BB is fired, the airsoft gun releases the latch for a fraction of a second and loads another BB into the gun out of the magazine. CO2, GBB, and HPA guns, which use high pressure air or green gas, will typically save the gas or feed air in through the magazine. This feeds BBs into the guns for these kinds of systems.
Airsoft Rifle Mags Information
Airsoft rifle magazines are usually used in automatic electric guns (AEGs) and some types of sniper rifles. The mags are specific to the type of AEG rifle plus all of the types of that rifle are cross-compatible with the magazines. Learn more about how airsoft weapons function. The AEG mags are placed into the gun’s magazine insertion area. For instance M4 design AEG mags would generally operate in all M4 design rifles from a short CBQ gun with a 10 inch barrel made by G&G to a designated marksman rifle (DMR) platform with a 24″ barrel. The same idea would apply to AK47 AEG mags with swapability in between various AK rifle platforms. AEG rifle magazines can keep between 60 to 200+ airsoft BBs.
Airsoft SMG Mags Details
Airsoft SMG magazines AEG are similarly separated by gun design and usable in between various submachine guns. Hecker and Koch H&K MP5 AEG mags are made to work in different MP5s like the MP5K or MP5SD. P90, KRISS Vector, and TMP AEG magazines are constructed to be cross-compatible. These SMG magazines also are available in real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity versions with BB storage capacities varying from around 24 airsoft BBs with real capacity mags to over 200 BBs with high capacity mags. Rifle Mags for Green Gas and HPA Systems Green gas rifles (consisting of GBB versions) and weapons powered by high pressure air (HPA) often have their own customized design depending on the airsoft weapon brand. These mags use air and gas to function so the mags frequently come with builtin gas reservoirs or are pre-tapped for HPA tank hookups. The magazines used in GBB weapons house gas in the mag so the rifle cycles every shot and feeds in the next BB. HPA pre-tapped mags use HPA lines which are attached to the valves and allow the pressurized air to stream in through the mag. This setup feeds the airsoft BBs into the HPA weapon.
Airsoft Handgun Mags Info
Airsoft pistol mags are frequently less flexible when compared to the AEG mags used in smgs and rifles. Many airsoft pistol magazines store around 20 to 30 airsoft BBs.
