What is Airsoft
Airsoft is a shooting sport where players use airsoft guns like shotguns, pistols, and rifles to fire 6mm plastic BBs. The gameplay can feature a mixture of mission based situations and team style games where game players and groups of participants battle to win. Airsoft groups can vary in size from a couple of game players to many teams, fire teams, and units depending on the size of the playing field and player turnout. Larger sized airsoft fields and airsoft tourneys can host 100s and even thousands of players based on the area of operations (AO).
Primary airsoft weapons consist of the AK47 Kalashnikov, Heckler and Koch H&K G36, Colt M4 Carbine style assault rifles which are reproduced using automatic electric (AEG) airsoft guns. Sidearms generally include Beretta M9, 1911, or Glock pistols which are carried as airsoft green gas or CO2 airsoft pistol variations.
Airsoft players typically use camouflage patterns during games along with headgear like tactical helmets and tactical vests set up with pouches. Each opposing airsoft group typically uses a particular pattern to help determine hostile and friendly forces.
The targets airsoft weapons are shot at can vary depending on airsoft game type. Many of the targets engaged with airsoft weapons are other participants during force-on-force battles.
There are also many types of airsoft games. The types of airsoft games are pretty much limitless as players create more kinds all of the time.
About Milsim Airsoft
Military simulation airsoft, or milsim, is typically a sizable part of airsoft. Milsim is the art of simulating a militaristic setting. Many times this integrates a command element, motor vehicles, and semi-realistic locations with mock battleground firecrackers or special effects. Much of the airsoft uniforms, guns, and objectives are reproductions of genuine guns, fatigues, and real-world missions out of history. The outcome of well done milsim results in players looking very military-esque and outfitted like soldiers.
Milsim airsoft guns are based on the era and feature popular weapons during the time of the historical objective. The M16A1 rifle has the timeless appearance of a Vietnam age assault rifle, while other airsoft rifles like the Heckler & Koch HK416 or IWI TAVOR TAR-21 are much more contemporary. In strict milsim gameplay, the weapons used by players must follow the period, use associated scopes and optics, and be correctly modded.
Milsim attires can vary based on events and be based around the historical gear of the time. The military gear used generally has to match the uniform and be from the equivalent age. A modern-day U.S. Navy Seal milsim uniform and loadout could incorporate a Navy Working Uniform (NWU) camouflage pattern with a London Bridge Trading LBT-6094 Plate Carrier Gen II AOR1 and a ballistic helmet like the Ops-Core FAST SF Super High Cut Helmet. Reproduction tactical gear and ballistic armor and helmets are often used instead of the legitimate equipment. This helps to save money since the genuine equipment can cost 1000s of dollars and the imitation gear can be lighter to run around with on the airsoft field.
The missions undertaken throughout milsim operations include historic reenactments and missions or objectives set as historical fiction. Have you ever wanted to storm the beaches of Normandy, defend the 38th Parallel, or tackle the drug lords of Mogadishu during Blackhawk Down? Milsim combined with airsoft is the manner in which you can actively participate in and experience military history.
