Airsoft Weapon Magazines
Airsoft guns shoot airsoft BBs. These BBs are normally stored in the gun’s magazine. These magazines usually attach to the airsoft weapon similar to the genuine weapons they are created after. The types of airsoft gun magazines consist of real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity magazines.
Airsoft Weapon Magazine Types
Airsoft weapon magazines are manufactured in several types like real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity magazines. These types most often apply to AEG magazines for automatic electric guns. Real capacity mags, or real-caps, replicate the volume of airsoft BBs a genuine weapon would store in bullets, which is usually around 24 to 30 BBs. Mid capability magazines, or mid-caps, permit more airsoft BB storage with capacities around 120 to 160 BBs. High capacity magazines, or high-caps, give airsoft gamers the greatest storage space with around 200 rounds of BB storage capacity. One point to keep in mind about high-cap mags is that airsoft arenas commonly restrict their usage because of players firing too much ammunition to spray-and-pray during gameplay.
How Airsoft Mags Work
Airsoft mags have a series of internal channels and BB storage zones. The BBs are typically loaded into these channels with a spring connected to the very far end. When the BBs are loaded, they compress the spring producing stress. On the load end, a small lock holds the BBs in the magazine. When a BB is fired, the airsoft gun releases the lock for a fraction of a second and loads another BB into the weapon out of the mag. HPA, GBB, and CO2 guns, which use compressed air or green gas, will typically store the gas or feed air in through the mag. This feeds BBs into the guns for these kinds of systems.
About Airsoft Rifle Mags
Airsoft rifle magazines are most typically used in automatic electric guns (AEGs) and some types of sniper rifles. See how airsoft guns shoot BBs. The mags are specific to the type of AEG rifle and all of the types of that rifle are cross-compatible with the mags. The AEG mags are inserted into the weapon’s mag well.
About High Capacity LMG Mags
Some airsoft AEG guns and squad automatic weapons like SAWs use very large capacity magazines. They can carry up to 1000s of BBs and provide massive amounts of suppressive fire for a squad or fireteam.
Info on Airsoft SMG Magazines
Airsoft SMG mags AEG are usually separated by gun model and usable in between various submachine guns. Hecker and Koch H&K MP5 AEG mags are made to work in different MP5s like the MP5K or MP5SD. P90, KRISS Vector, and TMP AEG mags are usually built to be compatible. These SMG magazines also can be found in real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity variations with BB storage capacities varying from around 24 airsoft BBs with real capacity mags to over 200 BBs with high capacity mags. Rifle Mags for Green Gas and HPA Systems Green gas rifles (consisting of GBB versions) and guns powered by high pressure air (HPA) typically have their own custom style depending on the airsoft gun brand. These magazines use air and gas to work so the mags often include builtin gas storage or are pre-tapped for HPA tank hookups. The mags used in GBB weapons house gas in the mag so the rifle cycles every shot and feeds in the next BB. HPA pre-tapped mags use HPA lines which are attached to the valves and let the pressurized air to flow in through the magazine. This setup feeds the airsoft BBs into the HPA weapon.
Details About Airsoft Handgun Magazines
Airsoft handgun mags are typically less versatile when compared to the AEG mags used in smgs and rifles. Many airsoft handgun mags can hold around 20 to 30 airsoft BBs.
