About MOLLE Pouches and Equipment
The BLACKHAWK Molded Black CORDURA Gladius Light Pouch is a tactical pouch. A lot of tactical pouches attach with MOLLE straps and hook-and-loop style attachments. MOLLE pouches have just recently become popular in the last few years due to tactical developments and inventions. They are the top choice for securing military style pouches to range gear, vests, range bags, and other types of equipment. MOLLE straps offer a unique method for users to pick the mounting area and position of the pouch and mount them anywhere on gear where there is a MOLLE accessory panel location. The only restriction becomes which pouches to employ and where to position them.
What is MOLLE?
MOLLE stands for Modular Lightweight Load-Carrying Equipment and refers to the pouches, panels, and straps which are employed in the MOLLE equipment system. Now that we know what MOLLE is and how it works, let’s check out some of the best MOLLE pouches you can include in your airsoft gear starting with airsoft gun magazine pouches.
Colors of MOLLE Pouches and Camouflage Patterns
MOLLE tactical pouches are available in all colors and camo patterns. Typical pouch colors include: black, tan, OD green (olive drab), foliage green (sage), ranger green, and grey. Typical pouch camouflage patterns include: woodland, desert, A-TACs, Multicam, ACU (Army Combat Uniform), digital, and others. Check out the example swatches below for what they appear like:

Types of BLACKHAWK MOLLE Pouches
Standard Rifle Magazine Pouches
These are also called ‘standard’ pouches or simply ‘mag pouches’ because they are pretty basic in style. The magazines are secured inside the pouch with a top flap for extra security that is typically secured with Velcro. In addition to being offered from lots of tactical gear companies in the airsoft industry, basic rifle magazine pouches are resilient and one of the most cost effective ways to hold magazines.
Tactical Open Top Magazine Pouches
Open top magazine pouch types resemble the standard mag pouches with a few modifications. As the tactical pouch name implies, this pouch style gets rid of the flap leaving an open top to put in and extract magazines. This allows quiet access and increased speed while reloading weapons or accessing gear. These mag pouches can come in single or triple magazine holding setups.
Open Top MOLLE Magazine Pouches with Retention
Open top magazine pouches with retention systems are the newest and most innovative kind of tactical mag pouches. The retention systems are built into the magazine pocket so that it carries the magazine firmly under stretchy bungees. In order to make mag accessibility easier and magazine reloads faster than ever before, this style of tactical pouch uses MOLLE accessories so it can be installed at any angle on a MOLLE tactical vest. The pouch parts are typically made from ABS components.
The BLACKHAWK brand also makes retention mag pouches like the FastMag design use differing types of retention to grip the magazines and provide security including bungee cables or rubberized bungee bands (depending upon producer). Magazines are quickly reloadable by indexing the magazine and using a hard tug up out of the pouch. While kept in the holder, the tension straps securely hold the magazines so you do not need to worry about losing the mag during fast movements, crawling, climbing up things, or maneuvers in training or on the airsoft field.
BLACKHAWK MOLLE Airsoft Weapon Pistol Magazine Pouches
Handgun magazine pouches come in similar designs to the rifle pouches with standard flip top, open top, and open top with retention designs of tactical pouches. The pistol magazine pouches which come in the standard design have a Velcro flap. Condor makes a couple of standard handgun pouches which secure airsoft weapon magazines very well with this long lasting Velcro flip top style.
The open top and open top with retention pistol pouches are the most frequently used variations of handgun pouches. Many of the same companies which make rifle mag pouches make matching pistol magazine pouches in the same design.
Combination Magazine Tactical Pouches Kangaroo, Stacker, and Hybrid
Kangaroo tactical pouches are a paired design of pouch including both a rifle and handgun magazine. A pair of magazines are typically much better than one. This pouch shows this to be true considering that it saves you cash from having to buy a pair of pouches. The expense of one triple mag kangaroo pouch equals about a seventy-five percent (75%) savings over purchasing all 6 individually (3x rifle and 3x handgun magazines). Never ever buy pouches one at a time when you can get them as a group.
Tactical Dump Pouches
Dump pouches (a.k.a magazine retrieval pouches) make an area for you to discard empty magazines and other gear into quickly. Some dump pouches also have drawstring tops for additional security while on the run with a filled pouch.
Tactical IFAK Medical MOLLE Pouches
Medical pouches are a must have for an airsoft gear loadout. IFAK is an acronym meaning individual first aid kit and includes the equipment airsoft players need when they need to patch up a gash or wound on the field. An emergency treatment kit must contain the following items: medical tape or cloth tape, Band-Aids or adhesive bandages, Ibuprofen or Aspirin, rolled gauze, a number of sterile gauze pads, antibacterial wipes, folding CPR mask or breath barrier, non-latex gloves, trauma shears, tweezers, and Other medical products.
MOLLE Admin Pouches
Admin pouches create room for carrying tools, folded maps, pens, compasses, and other field gear. These pouches are basic use pouches for odds and ends which don’t go anywhere else normally. Think of things like spare airsoft BB bags, red dead rags, multitools (if they do not have their own unique pouch), and other gear you might need on the airsoft field or in a tactical scenario.
Tactical Radio Pouches with MOLLE Attachments
Lots of airsoft units work with communications and radios devices in the field. Using a radio pouch with MOLLE accessories helps you secure your communications gear while moving. These little radio pouches will hold most walkie-talkies and radio handsets like the Motorola TALKABOUT T800 series and Baofeng UV-5R VHR radios.
