About Airsoft
Airsoft is a shooting sport where game players use airsoft weapons to shoot 6mm plastic BBs. Airsoft teams can differ in size from a few players to numerous squads, fire teams, and separate forces based on the size of the playing field and game player turnout.
Airsoft guns consist of the following rifles, handguns, and sniper rifles. The main airsoft weapons consist of the AK47 Kalashnikov, Heckler and Koch H&K G36 assault rifle, Colt M4 Carbine style assault rifles which are replicated in the form of automatic electric (AEG) airsoft guns. Sidearms usually include Beretta M9, 1911, or Glock handguns which are used in loadouts as airsoft green gas or CO2 airsoft handgun variations. Sniper rifles often are designed after the Remington 700 bolt action long guns which participants use as spring powered sniper rifles.
Airsoft participants usually don camo patterns for games in addition to headgear like tactical helmets and tactical vests set up with pouches. Each opposing airsoft team often wears a particular pattern to assist in determining friendly and hostile forces. The most common patterns include army battle dress uniforms (BDUs) like woodland camouflage, desert camo, digital camo, and MultiCam. If groups can not be separated by uniform, a colored band can be worn on the arm to designate opposing forces.
The targets airsoft guns are shot at can vary depending on game type. Most often the targets engaged with airsoft weapons are other players during force-on-force battles.
There are also numerous types of airsoft missions and objectives. The types of airsoft games are rather limitless as participants invent more kinds all the time.
What is Milsim
Military simulation airsoft, or milsim, is often a large part of airsoft. Many of the airsoft guns, objectives, and uniforms are duplications of actual guns, military outfits, and real-world missions out of the history books.
Milsim airsoft weapons are based around the period and feature popular weapons at the time of the historical objective. The M16A1 rifle has the classic appearance of a Vietnam period assault rifle, while other airsoft rifles like the Heckler & Koch HK416 or IWI TAVOR TAR-21 are much more modern. In stringent milsim gameplay, the weapons used must follow the period, use related accessories, and be appropriately modded.
Milsim fatigues can be very different based upon the events and be based around the historical gear loadouts of the period. The tactical equipment used typically has to match the uniform and be from the equivalent age. A modern-day U.S. Navy Seal milsim uniform and loadout could integrate a Navy Working Uniform (NWU) camo pattern with a London Bridge Trading LBT-6094 Plate Carrier Gen II vest and a ballistic helmet like the Ops-Core FAST SF Super High Cut Helmet. Reproduction tactical equipment and ballistic panels and helmets are often used instead of the genuine gear. This saves money given that the genuine equipment can cost 1000s of dollars and the replica gear can be lighter to move around with on the airsoft field.
The missions undertaken throughout military simulation operations include historic reenactments and missions or objectives set as historical fiction. Have you ever wanted to storm the beaches of Normandy, defend the 38th Parallel, or deal with the drug lords of Mogadishu at the time of Blackhawk Down? Milsim blended with airsoft is one way you can actively join in and experience military history.
