Airsoft Weapon Magazines
Airsoft guns shoot airsoft BBs. These BBs are typically housed in the weapon’s mag. These magazines typically attach to the airsoft weapon very similarly to the genuine weapons they are imitated. The types of airsoft gun mags consist of real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity magazines.
Airsoft Gun Magazine Types
Airsoft weapon magazines come in various kinds like real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity mags. These kinds usually relate to AEG mags. Real capacity mags, or real-caps, imitate the supply of airsoft BBs a genuine gun would store in bullets, which is generally about 24 to 30 airsoft BBs. Mid capability mags, or mid-caps, allow for more airsoft BB space with capacities about 120 to 160 BBs. High capacity mags, or high-caps, offer airsoft gamers the most storage space with over 200 rounds of BB storage volume. One point to keep in mind about high-cap mags is that airsoft arenas frequently restrict their usage due to players shooting an excessive amount of ammo to spray and pray during games.
How Airsoft Mags Work
Airsoft magazines have a series of internal channels and BB storage spaces. The BBs are typically packed into these channels with a spring connected to the really far end. When the BBs are loaded, they compress the spring developing tension. On the load end, a small lock holds the BBs in the magazine. When a BB is fired, the airsoft weapon launches the lock for a fraction of a second and loads another BB into the weapon out of the magazine. GBB, CO2, and HPA guns, which use compressed air or green gas, will typically store the gas or feed air in through the magazine. This feeds BBs into the guns for these kinds of systems.
Airsoft Rifle Magazines
Airsoft rifle mags are most typically used in automatic electric guns (AEGs) and some types of sniper rifles. See how airsoft AEGs shoot BBs. The mags are specific to the type of AEG rifle and all of the types of that rifle are cross-compatible with the magazines. The AEG magazines are inserted into the gun’s mag well.
About High Capacity LMG Mags
Some airsoft AEG guns and squad automatic weapons use very large capacity magazines. They can carry up to thousands of airsoft BBs and provide massive amounts of suppressive fire for a squad or fireteam during engagements.
Airsoft SMG Mags Details
Airsoft SMG mags AEG are similarly separated by weapon design and functional in between different submachine guns. Hecker and Koch H&K MP5 AEG mags are made to operate in various MP5s like the MP5K or MP5SD. P90, KRISS Vector, and TMP AEG mags are built in a similar way. These SMG magazines also come in real capacity, mid capacity, and high capacity versions with BB storage capacities varying from around 24 airsoft BBs with real capacity mags to over 200 BBs with high capacity magazines. Rifle Mags for Green Gas and HPA Systems These mags use air and gas to operate so the mags frequently come with builtin gas tanks or pre-tapped for HPA tank connections. The magazines used in GBB weapons keep gas in the mag so the rifle cycles every shot and feeds in the next BB.
Airsoft Handgun Mags Info
Airsoft pistol magazines are typically less versatile when compared to the AEG magazines used in rifles and SMGs. Most airsoft pistol magazines hold around 20 to 30 airsoft BBs.
