Information About Airsoft Handgun Designs
Learn about airsoft sidearms and how you can use them as backup weapons or as primary weapons on the airsoft playing field. Getting the right handgun and practicing with it can make a big difference in blasting your shots. Handguns, by nature, are diminished range airsoft guns. They are normally created after firearm guns or look-alikes of genuine pistols. Numerous airsoft sidearms are completely licensed editions of their genuine handgun equivalents. These airsoft guns can visually look and operate in the same ways almost identically to the real guns they are designed after while firing airsoft BBs in place of real world bullets.
There are a few varieties of airsoft sidearms including CO2, propane or green gas (blowback and non-blowback), spring powered, and AEG automatic electric gun pistols. Each of these varieties of sidearms come with negatives and positives associated with them. Finding out about the varieties of airsoft sidearms lets you decide which type is right for you and your airsoft gameplay style.
Details About CO2 Airsoft Sidearms
CO2 airsoft sidearms are among the most long-lasting and typical varieties of pistols. They are all weather weapons working well in a lot of types of varying temperatures, weather and climates. These handguns use high pressure CO2 gas to send airsoft BBs out of the gun barrel. The CO2 cartridge stores the gas and is generally kept in the handgun’s magazine.
These forms of airsoft pistols are good choices for playing airsoft in colder temperatures since the high pressure CO2 gas is stored in the sealed cylinders and less susceptible to variation with low temperature. This gives CO2 airsoft pistols very good FPS and shot consistency while playing airsoft in the wintertime for instance where other types of pistols like green gas cease to work or hardly fire BBs.
About CO2 Gas and CO2 Cartridges
CO2 airsoft sidearms are powered by regular 12 gram CO2 cartridge cylinders. These cartridges look similar to a shiny metallic cylinder and contain high pressured CO2 gas composed of 1 carbon atom and two oxygen atoms thus the molecular formula is “C + O2”.
The CO2 gas cylinders cannot be refilled and you can typically order them in packs of 12, 20, 50, or 100 12 gram CO2 cartridge sets. They come sealed to preserve the CO2 gas securely inside, but once they are opened (firing them inside of an airsoft weapon breaks the seal) the cartridges will start to lose pressure if they are not used up. You need to try to run through the entire CO2 cartridge the same day you open the seal. Use the chance to do some pistol target practice and use up the rest of the extra gas if the airsoft games end and you still have CO2 gas left. There is no gas level sign on the cartridge so you have to shoot until the gun stops shooting BBs.
If they are kept sealed, CO2 cartridges have a long storage life. They have the manufacturer’s use by date usually printed on the package or cylinder, but they will likely last for a prolonged time past this date if the cartridge seals are not damaged.
Green Gas Airsoft Handguns
Green gas airsoft pistols resemble CO2 guns, however they do not use CO2 cartridges. Instead, they use green gas or propane gas for propellant to shoot the airsoft BBs. The operational impact on gameplay and green gas weapon operation is just about the same as CO2 handguns with the guns shooting up to 300+ feet per second (FPS). Shots are rapidly fired in semi-automatic or automatic firing modes and accurate at short to mid-range ranges.
The green gas is housed in the pistol’s mag and can frequently hold in-between 15 to 20+ 6mm airsoft BBs depending on the handgun design. A bunch of valves, silicone gaskets, and o-rings keep the green gas stored in the pistol magazine until the pistol’s trigger is pulled. It is a great choice to top off and fill up your green gas in your magazine each time you reload it. Pistol-wielding gamers can even take additional bottles of green gas or propane in the field for reloading between lulls in the war or in-between missions.
When bringing a green gas pistol on the airsoft field or arena as a primary or backup weapon, additional handgun mags are encouraged for quickly reloading and engaging opponents. Having extra magazines helps you reengage in the action in the middle of firefights or while clearing buildings in CQB (close quarters combat) room-to-room fighting.
Green gas pistols are excellent for CQB at airsoft fields given that rifles and full-sized AEGs are normally not authorized to be used for indoor engagements. This is an essential safety regulation because of the close range proximity of gamers during shooting engagements and the potential for players to be injured. While green gas pistols can still fire airsoft BBs at around 300 FPS, the shorter pistol barrel helps to keep the joules and energy launching the BB at a lower level compared to AEGs, airsoft rifles, sniper rifles, and long guns.
Thinking About Green Gas Blowback (GBB) VS Green Gas Non-blowback
There are two various sorts of green gas airsoft handguns. There are green gas blowback pistols or GBBs and non-blowback handguns. The green gas non-blowback airsoft handguns have a fixed slide which does not move.
About GBB and Green Gas Issues
Since the green gas or propane gas is stored in the pistol magazine using rubber seals and silicone gaskets, cold temperatures can negatively affect these o-rings and cause the gas to leak out before shooting the handgun. This lack of pressure can cause the airsoft BBs to just land a few feet away (like 10 feet in cold weather ) when it would usually shoot airsoft BBs over 100+ foot distances in warmer temps).
One option to this issue is to keep the GBB handgun mags warmer by putting them next to your body or by a heater before the airsoft game play starts. If you really want to play with a dependable airsoft pistol in the cold weather, it may additionally be worth getting a CO2 variation of your favorite pistol.
Spring Airsoft Handguns
Spring airsoft handguns are powered by strong springs with irregular pitches that shoot the BBs out of the handgun’s barrel. The manual functioning of shooting, reloading, and cocking spring handguns makes the fire rate much slower than CO2, green gas, and GBB airsoft guns.
Spring handguns perform most effectively in springer wars where players can only use similar, single shot spring weapons or as a transitional backup weapon for CQB buildings when you can usually surprise other airsoft participants to get an assured one-shot-one-kill. In the latter circumstance, a quick 2nd followup shot will not be needed given that the other person is now hit by the first shot and out of the game or heading back to respawn. Be careful when engaging a number of airsoft players because the spring gun only shoots as fast as you can re-chamber an airsoft BB by hand.
About Spring Handgun Performance
Spring handguns are incredibly efficient under the right game circumstances. Their FPS generally chronos at around 250 FPS to 300 FPS with lighter weight 0.12g airsoft BBs. These handguns generally fire lighter weight airsoft BBs because the pitched springs are less effective than other styles of airsoft guns like rifles. Spring pistols can normally shoot up to 120 feet or more with 0.12 gram BBs however the ability to hit targets accurately decreases rapidly. Choosing conventional 0.20g weight airsoft BBs, you will most likely have a shooting distance of about 60 to 80 feet with heightened accuracy.
AEG Automatic Electric Airsoft Handgun Details
AEG airsoft sidearms or AEPs (automatic electric pistols) are also an option to bring as a secondary gun on the airsoft field. These automatic electric handguns are normally powered by mini stick batteries in the gun’s butt. They work just like an AEG gun and use forced air with electrically cycled gearboxes, pistons, and cylinders to shoot airsoft BBs quickly and very quickly at that.
AEG pistol mags generally hold about 20 to 30 airsoft BBs. The pistols can fire airsoft BBs right up to about 300 FPS using 0.12g airsoft BBs or about 200 to 250 FPS when loaded with 0.20 gram airsoft BBs. The electric battery powered gearbox system can shoot around 700+ BBs per minute assuming you have enough spare mags to maintain the ammo supply and the battery holds out that long. These AEP handguns can efficiently shoot airsoft BBs at about 150 foot distances.
AEG Pistol Quality and Performance
AEG pistol quality has grown considerably in recent years. The earliest generations were a little bit undependable and sketchy, but the new models have most of the deficiencies worked out and make effective airsoft backup guns. They can be modded with maximized magazine storage capacities and also accommodating larger batteries.
A substantial advantage of carrying an AEG handgun is that you have the capability to rewire the battery connectors to use a more substantial battery. Depending on the AEG handgun design, you can gain a huge increase in performance by using a 2 cell Lipo battery (2S Lipo) as an alternative for the stock mini battery.
What Airsoft Pistol is Right for Me to Play with?
If you have $100 or more to use to buy your airsoft handgun, you may want to consider a green gas blowback handgun or AEG pistol. If you have in-between $50 to $100 to upgrade your gun, look at a CO2 handgun or cheaper GBB handgun. If you are on a budget, you can still get a hold of a resilient airsoft pistol to use for the pistol games by checking out lower end pistols and by trading with other players on the used gun market.
