About MOLLE Pouches and Gear
The SSO/SPOSN Russian Spetsnaz entrenching Tool Spade Pouch molle is a tactical pouch. The majority of tactical pouches attach with MOLLE straps and hook-and-loop style accessories. MOLLE straps provide a flexible method for users to select the mounting location and position of the pouch and mount them anywhere on equipment where there is a MOLLE attachment panel location.
What is MOLLE?
MOLLE stands for Modular Lightweight Load-Carrying Equipment and identifies the pouches, panels, and straps which are adopted in the MOLLE equipment system. Now that we understand what MOLLE is and how it works, let’s check out some of the leading MOLLE pouches you can add to your airsoft gear beginning with airsoft weapon magazine pouches.
Colors of MOLLE Pouches and Camouflage Patterns
MOLLE tactical pouches come in all colors and camouflage patterns. Common pouch colors consist of: black, tan, OD green (olive drab), foliage green (sage), ranger green, and grey. Common pouch camouflage patterns consist of: woodland, desert, A-TACs, Multicam, ACU (Army Combat Uniform), digital, and others. Take a look at the example swatches below for what they look like:

Types of SSO/SPOSN MOLLE Pouches
Standard Rifle Magazine Pouches
Rifle magazines are important to carry on your equipment for holding M4/AR -15, AK-47, and other types of airsoft weapon rifle magazines. These are usually called ‘standard’ pouches or just ‘mag pouches’ since they are pretty standard in style. They are among the initial designs of pouches created to carry spare magazines with you in the field. The magazines are secured inside the pouch with a top flap for added security that is generally attached with Velcro. The flap might include a plastic side-release buckle depending upon pouch design. In addition to being available from lots of tactical equipment companies in the airsoft industry, standard rifle magazine pouches are durable and one of the most budget-friendly methods to hold magazines.
Tactical Open Top Magazine Pouches
Open top magazine pouch types resemble the standard mag pouches with a couple of modifications. As the tactical pouch name implies, this pouch design eliminates the flap leaving an open top to place and remove magazines. This allows for quiet access and increased speed while accessing or refilling gun equipment. These mag pouches can be available in single or triple magazine holding setups.
Open Top MOLLE Magazine Pouches with Retention
Open top magazine pouches with retention systems are the most recent and most innovative type of tactical mag pouches. In order to make mag access easier and reloads faster than ever before, this style of tactical pouch utilizes MOLLE straps so it can be installed at any angle on a MOLLE tactical vest.
The SSO/SPOSN brand also makes retention magazine pouches like the FastMag design use differing kinds of retention to grip the magazines and offer security including bungee cables or rubberized stress bands (depending upon manufacturer). Magazines are quickly reloadable by indexing the magazine and giving it a hard tug up out of the pouch. While kept in the holder, the stress straps firmly hold the magazines so you don’t have to think about losing the mag during fast movements, crawling, climbing over things, or maneuvers in training or on the airsoft field.
SSO/SPOSN MOLLE Airsoft Weapon Pistol Magazine Pouches
Pistol magazine pouches come in related styles to the rifle pouches with standard flip top, open top, and open top with retention designs of tactical pouches. The pistol magazine pouches which can be found in the basic design have a Velcro flap. Condor makes a number of basic handgun pouches which secure airsoft gun magazines very well with this long lasting Velcro flip top design.
The open top and open top with retention pistol pouches are the most typically found versions of handgun pouches. Many of the same companies which make rifle mag pouches make matching pistol magazine pouches in the same style. This consists of companies like Blue Force Gear, and High Speed Gear. Both of their rifle mag pouch designs are outstanding quality, functional, and are reproduced by airsoft pouch companies.
Combination Magazine Tactical Pouches Kangaroo, Stacker, and Hybrid
Kangaroo tactical pouches are a paired style of pouch featuring both a rifle and pistol magazine. The cost of one triple mag kangaroo pouch equates to about a seventy-five percent (75%) cost savings over purchasing all six separately (3x rifle and 3x pistol magazines).
Tactical Dump Pouches
Dump pouches (a.k.a clip collection pouches) create a spot for you to discard empty mags and other gear into quickly. These tactical pouches are usually carried in a rolled up position and secured by a snap or strap. The pouch can be quickly unrolled to increase in size and hold empty mags after you reload your gun, additional airsoft BBs/shells, and other equipment while on the airsoft field. Some dump pouches even have drawstring tops for extra security while moving with a pouch full of empty handgun clips.
Tactical IFAK Medical MOLLE Pouches
Medical pouches are a must have for an airsoft equipment loadout. IFAK stands for individual first aid kit and contains the equipment airsoft players need when they have to patch up a gash or wound on the field. An emergency treatment pack needs to include the following items: medical tape or cloth tape, Band-Aids or adhesive bandages, Ibuprofen or Aspirin, rolled bandages, a number of sterile gauze pads, antiseptic wipes, folding CPR mask or breath barrier, non-latex gloves, trauma shears, tweezers, and Other medical products.
MOLLE Admin Pouches
Admin pouches create room for carrying multitools, folded maps, pens, and other field items. These pouches are general use pouches for odds and ends which don’t go anywhere else generally. You can carry things like spare airsoft BB bags, red dead rags, multitools (if they don’t have their own unique pouch), and other equipment you may need on the airsoft field or in a tactical scenario.
Tactical Radio Pouches with MOLLE Accessories
Many airsoft units employ radios and communications equipment in the field. Operating a radio pouch with MOLLE accessories helps you secure your communications equipment while moving. These small radio pouches will hold most walkie-talkies and family band radios like the Motorola TALKABOUT T800 models and Baofeng UV-5R VHR radios.
