About MOLLE Pouches and Equipment
The Maxpedition Gear Tactical Can Case is a tactical pouch. Many tactical pouches attach with MOLLE straps and hook-and-loop style attachments. MOLLE pouches have recently become popular in the last few years due to tactical innovations and inventions. They are the top choice for securing military style pouches to equipment, airsoft vests, range bags, and other kinds of field gear. MOLLE straps offer a flexible method for users to select the mounting area and position of the pouch and install them anywhere on gear where there is a MOLLE attachment panel location. The only restriction ends up being which pouches to employ and where to place them.
What is MOLLE?
MOLLE stands for Modular Lightweight Load-Carrying Equipment and identifies the pouches, panels, and straps which are put to use in the MOLLE equipment system. Now that we understand what MOLLE is and how it works, let’s check out some of the top MOLLE pouches you can include in your airsoft gear beginning with airsoft weapon magazine pouches.
Colors of MOLLE Pouches and Camouflage Patterns
MOLLE tactical pouches come in all colors and camouflage patterns. Common pouch colors include: black, tan, OD green (olive drab), foliage green (sage), ranger green, and grey. Common pouch camouflage patterns consist of: forest, desert, A-TACs, Multicam, ACU (Army Combat Uniform), digital, and others. Take a look at the example swatches below for what they appear like:

Kinds Of Maxpedition MOLLE Pouches
Standard Rifle Magazine Pouches
These are also called ‘standard’ pouches or just ‘mag pouches’ because they are quite standard in style. The magazines are secured inside the pouch with a top flap for extra security that is generally secured with Velcro. In addition to being available from lots of tactical equipment companies in the airsoft industry, basic rifle magazine pouches are resilient and one of the most budget-friendly methods to carry magazines.
Tactical Open Top Magazine Pouches
Open top magazine pouches resemble the basic mag pouches with a couple of modifications. As the tactical pouch name suggests, this pouch design removes the flap leaving an open top to insert and extract magazines. This enables quiet access and increased speed while reloading weapons or accessing equipment. These mag pouches can be available in single or triple magazine holding setups.
Open Top MOLLE Magazine Pouches with Retention
Open top magazine pouches with retention systems are the most recent and most innovative type of tactical mag pouches. The retention systems are built into the magazine pocket so that it carries the magazine tightly under pressure. In order to make mag accessibility easier and reloads faster than ever before, this design of tactical pouch utilizes MOLLE accessories so it can be mounted at any angle on a MOLLE tactical vest. The pouch components are usually made of ABS materials.
The Maxpedition brand also makes retention mag pouches like the FastMag style use differing kinds of retention to grip the magazines and offer security including bungee cables or rubberized tension bands (depending upon maker). Magazines are quickly reloadable by indexing the magazine and using a hard tug up out of the pouch. While kept in the holder, the stress straps safely hold the magazines so you don’t have to be concerned about losing the mag during fast motions, crawling, climbing over things, or maneuvers in training or on the airsoft field.
Maxpedition MOLLE Airsoft Gun Handgun Magazine Pouches
Handgun magazine pouches are available in similar designs to the rifle pouches with standard flip top, open top, and open top with retention styles of tactical pouches. The handgun magazine pouches which can be found in the standard style have a Velcro flap. Condor makes a few basic pistol pouches which secure airsoft gun magazines very well with this durable Velcro flip top design.
The open top and open top with retention handgun pouches are the most typically seen versions of handgun pouches. A number of the same companies which make rifle mag pouches make matching pistol magazine pouches in the very same design. This includes manufacturers like Blue Force Gear, and High Speed Gear. Both of their rifle mag pouch styles are excellent quality, usable, and are reproduced by airsoft pouch companies.
Combination Magazine Tactical Pouches Kangaroo, Stacker, and Hybrid
Kangaroo tactical pouches are a paired style of pouch including both a rifle and handgun magazine. Two is usually far better than one. This pouch shows this to be correct because it saves you money from having to purchase two separate pouches. The expense of one triple mag kangaroo pouch equals about a seventy-five percent (75%) cost savings over purchasing all 6 separately (3x rifle and 3x handgun magazines). Never buy pouches separately when you can get them together.
Tactical Dump Pouches
Dump pouches (a.k.a magazine collection pouches) create a spot for you to throw empty magazines and other things into quickly during battle. These tactical pouches are typically carried in a rolled up position and secured by a button or strap. The pouch can be quickly unrolled to increase in size and hold empty clips after you reload your weapon, additional airsoft BBs/shells, and other tac gear while on the airsoft field. Some dump pouches also have drawstring tops for extra security while moving with a pouch full of empty rifle mags.
Tactical IFAK Medical MOLLE Pouches
Medical pouches are a must have for an airsoft equipment loadout. IFAK is an acronym for individual first aid kit and consists of the equipment airsoft players require when they have to patch up a scrape or injury on the field. An emergency treatment pack should include the following items: medical tape or fabric tape, Band-Aids or adhesive bandages, Ibuprofen or Aspirin, rolled gauze, a number of sterile gauze pads, antiseptic wipes, folding CPR mask or breath barrier, non-latex gloves, trauma shears, tweezers, and Other items.
MOLLE Admin Pouches
Admin pouches make space for carrying a Leatherman, folded maps, pens, compasses, and other field items. These pouches are basic use pouches for odds and ends which don’t go anywhere else usually. Think of things like extra airsoft BB bags, red dead rags, multitools (if they don’t have their own separate pouch), and other gear you may need on the airsoft field or in a tactical circumstance.
Tactical Radio Pouches with MOLLE Accessories
Lots of airsoft teams employ communications and radios devices on the field. Applying a radio pouch with MOLLE attachments helps you secure your communications gear while moving. These little radio pouches will hold most walkie-talkies and family band radios like the Motorola TALKABOUT T800 models and Baofeng UV-5R VHR radios.
